2013 Headliners

Just on the Jessie J thing, I happen to think she is very good.

I recommend getting your ears syringed. :P

Have you actually seen her? And have you noticed how the vast majority of people who are loving her are the types who wouldn't recognise a good band playing in their own front room? She's the new Westlife.

She can hold a note. She might even be a good performer, tho I've not taken enough interest in what she's doing on stage to notice. But the voice is cack, a shouty scream, and the music behind it barely classes as music by numbers (you don't need to watch to hear these things).

After a years break next year they are not going to go with Mumford and Sons as a headliner, they will want to blow people away with the calibre of headliners for 2013 IMO. I can see them being on the pyramid, although I think sub-headliner is still pushing it, or headlining the other stage as that is the natural progression for them but def not headlining the pyramid.

following on from decent sales of previous albums and a number of chart hits, I'd say so - at least, within the context of the sort of chart-friendly acts that seem to take up so much of the bill nowadays (and probably did in the past too, tho it didn't feel like that to me at the time). Personally I couldn't give a shit, but that applies to just about every new act I've seen in years - the number of newer acts that class as worthwhile in my book are tiny.

While that might be a consequence of getting older, I don't think so - and I present as my evidence Jessie J, an act that drew a huge crowd at Glasto (and elsewhere), where the crowd had a much greater number of 35-45 females and their kids (just listen to those girlie screams!) than any 'credible' act would ever have, and who is truly truly dreadful.

Yes, she might be able to hold a note but the voice is still a screech, and the music behind that is as Stock Aiken & Waterman as anything they ever did. Try listening to Kylie's 'Locomotion' and compare. What the fuck is happening to younger people's ears?

Hard to say without knowing how well the second album sells. They do have the mainstream popularity though, and i think if they are playing arenas next year, they could easily headline, especially if Glastonbury can't get their first choice of headliners. They are definitely big enough, and i think they could be the next Coldplay.

True but they might be a band that can continuously play high and pull the crowds in off their 1st singles. Though I must say, they're Other Stage crowd will need to be bigger for a headline Pyramid show, taking into consideration that not so much Morrissey took their crowd but radiohead secret show in the Park

Hmm, thing is, I'm not sure Example's got that many.

Maybe by 2013, but I doubt it. I personally prefer his original stuff, but that's preference.

I was on wiki anyway, so i've looked Example up.

According to that his first album didn't chart at all, the second peaked at 4, and the third is currently number 1.

For singles, he's released 11, 6 have charted in the top 30, and two have been number 1 (one of them was last week). He's also featured as a named guest on three other top 30 singles.

That's pretty good going I'd say. It's a better career already than most acts ever achieve, and if there was a Glasto next year I wouldn't be surprised if he headlined the Other.

With regards to what you said Neil, it's the norm isn't it, that the better acts aren't the ones on the Other or Pyramid B)

for me, it definitely is - and you can include JP on there too.

RE Example hasn't he just announced an arena tour? I don't like him but I'd expect him to be at least subing the other/headlining other in reality epesicially if he was against a newish/alternative pyramid headliner. (I.E He wouldn't be up against the stones as he wouldn't attract enough away (even then, he'd attract a lot of youngsters away ,but could easily do if they went for arcade fire/mumford and sons).

Anyway, more to the point where are my beloved Chase and Status going headline in 2013?!...Other?! John Peel?! or go for a full headline slot on west holts!

It's be up against Arecade Fire dude and Chase and Status heading West Holts is not a bad thought.

I think will be Daft Punk, Example, R.E.M. (Although given that R.E.M. would be the clasher with GaGa, you wouldn't rule out Chase and Status taking this.

Do you think Chase And Status would split the crowd up against Gaga? And would they put an act like C&S against Gaga? I'd think they would have a guitar act of some sort, to offer variety.

Personally I don't think R.E.M will play, but if they did, they're big enough, at Glasto to split the crowd, against a big act. I then think C&S would headline JPT. Are C&S big enough to headline Other? That's another debate

I do yeah. I can imaagine a lot fo the Chase and Status crowd not being bothered about GaGa. I thik to put them on same niht at Radiohead would be just too different. No crowd split at all. Its obvs Radiohead will have a older crowd in majority, while Chase will have the opposite, but as said JP not bad thought either, still same clash though.

In response to example he'd probably have another album out by 2013 with another clutch of hits, he might not have the credibility of primal scream and QOTSA from this year but in terms of hits you say he could sub or headline the other stage.

As for a small prediction

Main - Radiohead, Kylie, Foo's or Kasabian

Other - The Cure, Weezer, Example

Half wishful thinking, half realistic :)

They'll both share a lot of the same age/demographic.

The point is so that it will be different, thats why you'd put a guitar band, against a dance act etc. etc. If there's not an option of variety, then you have a dangerous situation where there's 120,000 at Pyramid.

The point of having them in JPT means that they again provide another alternative, against Radiohead, so it splits the crowd further. I don't care about clashes at this moment in time.

With regards to Manics, I highly doubt they'd accept a JPT slot. There's no reason for them to. They can still work top pyramid slots.
