2013 Headliners

Had a dream last night Pink Floyd headlined in 2013. Started with Shine on You Crazy Diamond. The stage was all black apart from the Floyd prism on the screen at the back of the stage. Gilmours guitar ringing out across the Pyramid Field….. “Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun”.

Shivers even thinking about the possibility.

3 mins 59 in.

I predicted they would headline 2013 a few months back (in this thread I think), I have a feeling it just might happen. Eavii have two years to get it sorted and have the biggest headliners in festival history. Fact!

U2, fair play to the Eavii for getting them last.this year, but Pink Floyd is in a completely different league. Michael would reitre happy after that

I thought they were pretty poor. Admittedly I was about half way back, but no-one really seemed to be listening. They played for what seemed like an eternity (2 1/2 hours maybe?) without ever really peaking or bringing the house down.

I think the description of 'going through the motions' is about right. They could have done a 90 minute set, put more into it, got the crown involved etc. But they just didn't look arsed.

Bestival was a bit of a shame like that. Bjork was similar. You can tell it is a dodgy set of headliners when Pendulum put on the best show....

Going through the motions? Eh? Not sure that even in their prime, Bob was actually renowned for trashing his guitar, crowd rolling and the like. Not sure what you really want from them.

Basically, despite not having played together for however long, they were ridiculously tight; despite his age his voice still sounded great; they apparently only had one guitarist on stage but I didn't realise until I read so afterwards; and they played absolutely everything (bar High) including some songs they apparently hadn't played for over two decades.

If you look at the setlist below, you can probably spot the supposedly non-existant peaks for yourself:

It's kind of what the cure do though! Really long sets performing songs right through out their career.

I've seen the chilli peppers jump about like idiots for 2 hours and still sound crap, I've also seen Robert smith stare at his shoes for 3 1/2 hors and sound totally epic!

Wasn't there but what I saw on tv looked fantastic, but then I'm a huge cure fan! Brilliant set list also.

Totally my ambition to see them at Glastonbury , don't know if it'll ever happen

I quite like The Cure but I can't say I was too impressed when I watched their Bestival set on TV. Perhaps that's just the way their live shows are but I would say they're a band for the diehards not the casual festival punters.

I was just about to mention The Cure, mostly great reports from Bestival. I suppose they'd be more suited to Other Stage but who knows.

I did see them at Bestival, It wasn't the best time I had seen them but it was certainly a great festival setlist and show.

As said above, they've hardly performed in 2 years and they are getting mostly tons of praise.

There was definitely people leaving throughout the Cure, and as the set went on the talking around us got louder. To be honest I'm not a massive Cure fan so did get a little bored, and even some of the people I was with who are pretty big fans agreed it was far to long a set to have at a festival where the majority aren't going to be diehard fans. In my opinion they could have cut an hour at least of the set and it would have had a better crowd reaction.

On the subject of praise, I only read the Guardian and Telegraph reviews after and they both singled out The Cure and PJ Harvey (who I didn't see) as being the highlights of the fest.

there was a review in The Observer on Sunday that was totally different, where they got a bit of a slagging.

Tho having already seen the set list they'd played before I read that review it was pretty obvious that the reviewer knew nothing of them outside of the bigger hits, because it implied that what they played was obscure to all but the biggest fans.

It was clearly a shit review, even tho I suspect I might have agreed with the general sentiment it gave about The Cure live if I'd have been there to see it.

Saw both the Cure and Bjork at Bestival from about 15 - 20 rows back. I thought that I only knew four Cure songs, but turns out that I regognised quite a few more and really enjoyed their set, although I agree that an hour and a half would have been a bit more manageable than two and a half hours.

Really struggled to get into Bjorks set - her comments part way through, something about 'Thank you for being patient, these songs are not really written with a festival in mind - But we don't care' were quite telling.

Highlights were the Chinese Lantern landing in the wings causing a bit of fire extinguisher action, and Declare Independance - The final song which was great and showed how good it could have been if only-----

After seeing Adele at the Royal Albert Hall last night I don't think you can count out her headlining in 2013. She's getting over her fear of big crowds as playing the o2 next year and she was on stage for 1 hour 40 mins last night and I knew pretty much every song and don't own either of her albums.

I'd imagine she'll have a new album out in 2013 as well....
