Yes, it is bad. :P

My son went with a female friend (jailbait herself, I am sure) so sadly no chasing of dainty females I would expect. Wouldn't blame him though, you are only young once (it just lasts a different amount of time for each of us and on occasion does not ever cease)

I'm all for Glastonbury have popular acts. Adds variety & you get to see the odd guilty pleasure ie I want to see Pixie Lott there next year. Tbh I don't see the V crowd being able to hack a whole 4/5 days in the wilderness & (I'm hoping) this summers festivals being hit by bad weather & the mud last year will put them off. Plus they won't have a clue of how to best wangle the system for a ticket on t-day.

I blame the TV coverage. 2010 was my first year, the weather was incredible, people were really into it, really did open my eyes to the possibility of what you can get up to on a long weekend in the countryside. I think TV coverage attracted a different type of folk wanting in on "GLASTOOOO!" action but not being quite prepared for it (let alone that mud).

As for Reading, I've been since '05 & I very much believe the riots, tent burning & canister explosions are well gone. Reading attracts preppy middle class teens, they might leave a load of shit behind but they wouldn't want to ruin their chinos or brand new Vans burning bog roll hung over the campsite lights. This years Reading was peaceful, had an almost relaxing atmosphere in the campsite & the yoofs were a lot more sociable & engaging than in previous years.

In regards to the OP

1. i like the green party and the women, but in regards to Caroline Lucas's speech before Wu tang clan: It was terrible. it wasn't a speech it was her shouting out liberal ideas at the crowd, don't get me wrong i agreed with lots of the stuff she said such as 'trident is a waste of money' but your not going to get support by coming on stage and shouting at people; like i said i like the girl but she just came across as some far-out left wing idiot. To contrast i remember in 09 the local priest coming on stage and saying a verse from the bible and say a few nice things in a calm and soft manner, now i'm sure a lot of people at Glastonbury don't have strong christian views but everyone was polite, applauded and listened. i'm sure if Caroline had given us a strong argument or thought out speech i'm sure people would have given her respect

2. More people went to Jessie J than primal scream possible because there were less clashes, i went to see Jessie J as it didn't clash with anyone. I wanted to see U2 instead of primal scream because i was intrigued. to contrast this Masses of people flocked to see Radiohead and Pulp at the park.

3. The BBC is going to cover all the rubbish, because people are sad and want to see the music in the charts.

I don' think Glastonbury is becoming V, I've never been to V and the reason is because of what people have been saying above. I'm 20, i wear 5year old clothes to festivals, i shower under the tap, i go to the harry Krishna's for my lunch and then listen to people chatting around the green fields, one of my Favorite activities at the festival is chilling with random people in stone circle. I've never seen a fight at Glastonbury and no one has ever been mean or even rude to me. yeah i see people walking around in topshop and not learning about any of the festival values, but i assure you most people are.

To but some spirit in your heart my friend bought the daily mail a year or 2 back and the newspaper seller booed him, and everyone boo'ed him for about minuets as he walked back to the tent

I think fatyet124s vid on the "Things you prefer to do at Glastonbury" thread is as good an indicator as any that we are some way from V festival territory yet, at least if you know where to go, or where to avoid.

I agree Dan = they are a milion miles apart in terms of atmosphere. I do go to V, as its my once a year trip back home, I get to spend time with friends who wouldn;t do other festivals and for whom Glastonbury would just scare they out of their wits. V is what you make it, avoid the trouble , have a good singalong, I try not to get too wound up at the scheduling/music choices but ultimately it's about having a good weekend with a group of friends.

Glasto is on another planet altogether and imo would never ever end up like V and you're right would take an epic fail over a number of years to even come close to V

Funny though I was walking behind two young men at V and they were discussing Glasto (as if they were in the know) - blimey if V is this big how big is Glaso - othe guys says 'about the same size mate' ..... erm one corner maybe, then they continue about the state of the toilets at V and how Glasto is so much cleaner/more hygienic etc .... I want to see their faces when they approach a long drop on Sunday evening !!!
