Feel like the criteria for selection has changed somewhat for this year compared to previous - Chappell is already massive, headlining Primavera etc. Ezra Collective & English Teacher won the last two Mercury's. Confidence Man have already released 3 albums.
It always used to be for artists tipped to breakthrough in that year - this list would've been more accurate 12 months ago.
We’ll likely never know how much of a priority it is. The other thing baffling me is Young being Saturday and Rodrigo Sunday. Other way round makes all sorts of sense but I wonder if it’s come down to when Young is available.
I had him in my original prediction 4th down Pyramid. I have to agree that would be a better slot if for no other reason than I’d go see him during the day but probably not as a headliner
