Mega Ross
Heres what you need: Tent Beer/ spirits/ smokes Gazebo Chair Sleeping bag Camping mat Toothbrush/ paste Wellies/ trainers/ spare socks Phone/ wallet/ keys Anything else is overkill imo, don't bring gaffer tape it's useless, get some jaffa tape if you want your repairs to last more than 5 minutes. I don't get this excess clothes thing, you're gonna smell like shit, why bother changing clothes. At most I'll change my socks if that. Quick splash of water in the morning, done. Things like BBQ's, buy them there, and food. You're not going for a jolly nice picnic or into the wilderness. You don't need speakers/ camera. A pack of cards for drinking games. Instead of bog roll use the previous days socks. Edited July 3, 2011 by Mega Ross
mooseman
So we're 7 weeks away from the festival and every time I get a moment to think I'm drawn to looking for tents and festival bits and bobs in preparation. Here is what I took last year (roughly) Clothes - seems about right Campsite gear Sleeping bag Pillow - use a pile of clothes, no point in lugging around a pillow Chair - it will get nicked Carry mat - what is a carry mat? Bin liners Gaffer tap Blanket - for what exactly, having a dandy picnic? Toiletries/Extras Toothbrush/toothpaste Deodorant Baby wipes Antibacterial gel Dry shampoo - its shit, don't waste your time, you don't need clean hair Loo roll - use baby wipes, much nicer Plasters - just go to the medical tent if you really need a plaster, 90% of the time you probably don't. Sun cream Paracetemol - handle your drinking better Plastic Knife/fork/spoon Wallet Phone + extra battery Money Insect repellent - oh yes don't forget this, can't stand those nasty english flies Chewing gum Lighter/matches Speakers + Batteries - will get nicked Camera - will get nicked Food way too much anybody got anything different to add for help out any virgins going for the first time this year? Guess Who
^ its not way to much, some people might prefer a comfortable festival and would prefer to keep clean etc, also the food list, maybe to much or maybe to little depends if people want to save money in which case take more food you can cook yourself also people might not enjoy living off the crappy festival food on sale. As for the stuff you said that would get nicked no it won't just keep it safe don't act like an idiot with expensive stuff and you'll be fine, my phone, camera etc never got stolen
The Mean Bean
you need a water pouch, a wee plastic bag with a nozzle on it that folds down to nothing in your bag but when filled holds 5 gallons, I have one and it was a lifesaver last year. One trip to the tap a day and you and 6 mates have water for brews, pot noodles, before bedtime drink to beat the hangovers.
*Stevie B*
If you're at Reading, it will be so much easier to buy your food from Tesco/Sainsbury's after you've pitched up, instead of trying to lag it all at once. That way you will also be able to cut down the amount you need, since if you're in town, may aswell have a nice big meal.

Guess Who
Just because you want comfort and to be clean doesn't mean a festival is not the place for you, you can still keep clean, eat well, be comfy and still have a great festival.. I personally don't see the point in ipod/speakers because your at a music festival but hey some people spend more time at campsites than others and like something to do. Don't need that many clothes tho, change of boxers/socks for each day, 2 t-shirts, shorts + jeans, hoody. Just take a normal camera, can pick up cheap but decent refurbed ones for £50/60 that you would happily use for other occasions and give you good festival pics. mrtourette
It's worth remembering the Mega Ross is a double-hard bastard and hardcore festivaller who, while being upset at getting cold due to not being allowed a fire on Sunday and the long drops being too smelly for him, doesn't need any home comforts like toilet roll/tissues or a change of clothes. He is not your average fesival goer and taking some small packs of tissues/wet wipes, a couple of changes of clothes, some snacks and a couple of binliners is not overkill. However I do agree about taking cooking gear and cool boxes full of food, I just get main meals there. Properly cooking or setting up a picnic is just too much grief. I wouldn’t bother with a pillow either, a bag or some clothes would do there, although if you do want one it doesn’t exactly take up much space. I'd go with: Socks and underwear for each day Two pairs of jeans (including one being worn) A few t-shirts Hoody Light coat/waterproof if weather looks like it might be dodgy Trainers and one other pair of hiking boots/wellies if weather looks like it may be dodgy Tent Sleeping bag Mat/airbed Travel packs of tissues/wet wipes (for toilet or general cleaning) Some snacks (nothing that requires any preparation - pop tarts, cereal bars, chocolate, etc.) Two binbags (to keep dirty/wet clothes separate or to make sure dry clothes stay dry) Deoderant Bodywash for hair and body (no need for separate shampoo, conditioner and shower gel, one-does-all is good enough at a festival) Toothbrush/toothpaste Painkillers Small bottle of water Plasters (handy for cuts or rubbing footwear) Beer & tabs

Mega Ross
Wow, lot of bullshit on here today. Didn't say I was extra hard or a hardcore festivaler, never even said I'd done the pissing on the spot thing. You don't need wipes because you can take your shirt off and have a wash at the taps, or in the pub toilets. And yes I was cold on the sunday, we should be allowed fires. And the long drops smell, doesn't mean I won't use them if neccessary (ie. other places are closed) Theres no point in getting more clothes dirty if you smell like shit and you're living for 5 days with everyone else smelling like shit anyway. As for the socks thing? Why not, they do the job nicely. And as for the food thing, you really needn't bring a weeks food. Either buy your meals cooked or have a bbq, trying to cook a meal at a festival will just end badly. I mean crackers AND biscuits. Sandwiches and bread You're trying to tell me thats not overkill. Buy a 1 gallon water bottle, empty it, carry it back to camp and refill it. I've used a water bag before and the water just tasted funny and gave me gut rot, not sure if it wasn't food grade or what. Again, don't bring anything valuable to a festival, it will get broken or nicked on year. It's sods law, don't go crying when it's pissed down with rain, soaked you to the bone and ruined your camera, or you get pickpocketed. Or god forbid you're stupid enough to leave something valuable back at camp. Edited July 4, 2011 by Mega Ross

rexclark
Why on earth would you not bring a camera? I love taking pics at festivals. I would say you're better bringing a shit phone as you've more chance of losing your phone than you are a camera.

mooseman
On the camera/speaker/ phone topic - i take a cheap phone, as it is the only phone i have, I break them too easily so just a £10 bullet proof phone for me. Yes you can take expensive things to a festival and look after them but why would you want to be worrying about them, would much rather have a worry free weekend myself. and stuff does get nicked at reading, it may not have happened to you, but it could easily fall out your pocket, get pinched. Also alcohol makes things much more likely to be lost.
