feral chile
Just reading on Skytext that Mich Winehouse wants to set up a charity for substance abuse. Really good idea in my opinion, but he says . I have no idea were he has plucked that figure from but I know in my area you can self-refer and be on a home detox within 2 weeks. An extremely unhelpful comment, as some people may have asked for help but may now think "whats the point".
Rufus Gwertigan
what's a home detox? Edited July 28, 2011 by Rufus Gwertigan
Rufus Gwertigan
Agreed. I'd assume the waiting time would differ according to location?
feral chile
I always listen to your point, but "2 years"?. I may not live in the back of nowhere but that is hard to believe.. 3 or 4 weeks yeah, unless you live on an island in the middle of the lakes and never talk to anyone for 2 years. grrr angry about this just like the Russel Brand and its an illness thing... amfy
You can definitely be in drug treatment, with a prescription to stabilise your drug use within a couple of weeks almost anywhere now. The idea of 2 year waits pre-dates the 1998 drug strategy. Since about 2002/2004, waits are down right across the country. If you have a stable enough background (i.e. - somewhere to live and someone to keep an eye on you health-wise), then you could detox at home from the outset, or as soon as you feel stable enough to go for it. The wait for residential detox/re-hab in my area is currently about 3-6 months depending on the urgency of the case, but there is plenty you can be doing in treatmnt in the meantime to prepare and maximise your chances of a successful recovery. This will be stuff like getting on day programmmes to get used to being in a routine and working through issues in groups so that the way re-hab works isn't a surprise, stabilising/reducing illicit use with a prescription, or working with a drug worker to really think about the changes you need to make, because "stopping" doesn't happen in isolation from the rest of the stuff you do. I agree that it is really unhelpful to say there are 2 year waits when people can get so much help so much quicker.
Ed209
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-14635384 No illegal drugs, but she might have been on the piss.

Ed209
"no illegal substances". So she could've been on all manner of legal shit. Which can be even worse.
The Nal
yeah, actually i noticed that. no mention of prescriptions at all. It disproves the drug dealer's story who said he scored huge amounts of smack and crack for her the night before though. That always sounded like a load of bollocks though. eFestivals
so is Amy still dead?
rexclark
I recon her body's just packed in. Even if she was off the drugs, the amount of abuse it must've taken over the years would've taken it's toll.

jump
I read that she was 5 times over the drink drive limit which has now got me scared as I normally drink around that 2/3 times a week.
Ed209
I found that alarming as well. I'm sure she spent about three years of her life constantly in excess of 5 times the drink drive limit. Maybe if she had got off the booze for a while, and then went straight back into her old drinking habit then the body had a kneejerk reaction to it. The Nal
"Toxicology tests showed there were no illegal substances in her system when she died." So she could've taken a shit load of prescriptions too?
Rufus Gwertigan
The amount in her blood stream does not indicate what she may have actually drank. She could of necked a bottle of Tesco finest vodka, then fell in to a coma and not died for some hours later.

Rufus Gwertigan
This is the official verdict now though, so I'm guessing that prescription drugs would have made it into the official cause of death if they were actually involved, and the press certainly would have latched on to it. been no mention of it

The Nal
We do have to start talking about drink in the same way do about drugs and drum it into kids about being careful... Not a nice picture that...

Yoghurt on a Stick
That's a harrowing photo. You just want to have had the opportunity to have put your arms around her and tell her ' it's going to be alright'.
