Mawbray Music Festival, Cumbria

If any of you festival types are at a loose end on the weekend of August 12-14th and happen to be in the North of England, you could do much worse than come along to the Mawbray Music Festival in Cumbria. Small, but perfectly formed, Mawbray has a capacity of just 500 and is taking place in a marquee behind The Lowther Arms pub and in the adjacent field and campsite.

Mawbray is a tiny village situated right on the Solway coast, four minutes walk from the beach and about three miles west of the Solfest site. Day ticket prices are £5 for the Friday, £8 for the Saturday or £8 for the Sunday (each including camping on the night in question) or you could really push the boat out and go for a full weekend ticket for the princely sum of £20 which includes a full weekends camping and entry to the festival!

Expect a good range of music from a variety of northern acts, many of whom you may have seen before if you have previously attended Solfest. Confirmed artists include: The Weirdstring Band,

House of Three Hands, The Trea Udo Band, Solway Deltas, Room 101, Monday's Arms, The Gardenelles, Sheepish, Cinnamon plus more to be announced....

Also expect, a lovely little intimate festival with good company, fine ales, a child friendly atmosphere and some cracking music. If you are looking for a cheap weekend away in early August, this is the one for you!

would love to join you there this year, sadly not though, we stayed at the lowther arms before solfest 2010 for a few days and heard the mawbray festival was brilliant.

would it be possible to run them 1 weekend after the other next year? then some folks could come to both!

Nice idea Chris, but I think that doing two separate festivals on two consecutive weekends, three miles apart using a lot of the same infrastructure at both would be the absolute death of me, not to mention causing huge amounts of anxiety for everyone else involved as well! Still, that's no reason to rule it out entirely....

Let's face it, there are very few campsites in Cumbria where you could get three nights camping on its own for £20. But for your £20 Mawbray ticket price you get all your camping, 21 excellent bands, top notch real ale and you are only five minutes walk from the beach!
