Horse Betting advice needed!

This Saturday I am going with a group of friends to the races. Now, I am a complete novice on horse betting and welcome any advice and how it all works at the races would be welcome. I understand the each way thing (costs double but you get something for 1st, 2nd and 3rd) but that is about it!

I go once a year to cartmel races as dad gets free tickets - my first win was a horse called Wensleydale - picked because it's my favourite cheese!

Bet on the horse with the silliest name. "Onion terror", "Alf Ramsey's Porn Dungeon", that sort of thing.

We've done a couple of staff night outs to the races and i've won the most both times either by going for a jockey in nice colours or a nice/daft name! I don't bother about the odds - places small bets then if your outsider wins you'll be happy!
