Why are Reading and Leeds so quiet this year?

I guess its just a mixture of the line up and people finding it difficult to find £200 for a leisure event or choosing to spend £200 on something else instead. I wasn't going to go until I got a cheap ticket off ebay for £70 less than face value, tickets on ebay are all about supply and demand and the supply this year definitely outweighs the demand.

Like you say, the line up is subjective though I don't think anyone can argue that this years line up is full of re-cycled bands, there are not many bands on the line up that are really exclusive (despite what Melvin says) that punters think wow.

Muse are the biggest band playing and they have played every festival in Europe of the past few years so despite the bollocks that they are exclusive in Europe or whatever the promoter is saying, some people will just think its not worthwhile spending £200 to see them and others.

Personally I'm really looking forward to the weekend more than the actual bands though I am really looking forward to seeing Muse, Jane's Addiction, The Streets, Strokes, Glassjaw, The Offspring, Deftones and Enter Shikari so there will be plenty to enjoy.

Its all subjective really. OP say the lineup is weak but this is the first time Ive been since 2008 and I got my tickets due to the lineup and the fact I could get babysitters. Ive been to Glasto 2009-2011 but the fact there are so many bands that I wouldnt get to see at Glasto i.e. MCR/Offspring/Rise Against/DFA/Deftones really swung it for me this year, I cant wait !!

If anything the fesitval is too diverse this year. The main stage has a lot of different genres on it, and whilst there's some great acts playing, there is absolutely no flow at all, except for the MCR day.

Plus, no real usp, no big act has reformed and is exclusively playing (Pulp have played quite a few other shows), and the one stadium sized headliner they have has toured the circuit to death for the last five years.

the weekend is whatever you make of it, i've been going since 2004 and initially i did think this was a weak lineup. To combat that I did what I havent done since 2005, i checked out all the bands i didnt know already to give myself more value for money out of my ticket. And as a result theres 63 bands i want to watch, twice as many than any other year I've been to, glastonbury aside there arent many festivals that give you as much variety in the lineup as leeds and reading

... Whole load of reasons - people seem to have less expendable income each year yet prices have continued to rise, more festivals to choose from (for bands as well as punters), lots of recycled acts and overall a line-up which seems to have disappointed more people than it has pleased. If the forecast was better they probably would have had a bit of a surge too.

Personally, now I know the stage times, I'm happy with the line-up - enough bands to keep me interested with few clashes and limited stage hopping.
