eFestivals
Did anyone hear about "See No Evil"? It describes itself as "Some of the world’s leading street artists, some of the biggest pieces of permanent street art, some of the best music and one big block party August 20 2011!". Essentially it's a load of graffiti/street art painted along one street in Bristol - and all with the council's blessing. http://www.seenoevilbristol.co.uk/ The artwork is (mostly) fantastic, I was very impressed with how many people were there to see it the two times I've been to take a look (once before it was finished, once after), but most impressive of all was the huuuuuuge pile of bottles and can to found hidden away nearby which I'm guessing was the result of a piss-up by the artists. If you're in Bristol sometime soon is very worth a stroll down Nelson Street to check it out.
Katster
I heard about it from you previously. It sounds great and I wish they did something similar in Manchester. I love proper graffiti.
eFestivals
no, it wasn't this I'd mentioned before - I only found out about it a couple of weeks ago. What I mentioned before was something about the council considering that graffiti shouldn't be painted over by default as something that 'brings an area down' - tho I don't know how that consideration panned out. There's so much graffiti around all areas of Bristol and some of it's fantastic so they're being smart if they take a more progressive attitude to that. 'See No Evil' is different, it's all specially created art for this event, and all down just one street in the town centre (there's more of it than the one big piece that features on the website). On a different note, someone recently bought a building with one of the more famous Banksy's on the side of it, and decided to paint over the 'graffiti'. worm
Yeah, an urban arty friend in Bristol had been trying to get me to go for some time. I would have had I not been pre-occupied.
