LMAO

Seriously Neil, I would never release anything with this many production bugs :)

Did you do any testing at all ? :) For goodness sake not even the emotion icons where working :D

The software has been programmed and released by a professional software company: it's been massively tested before its first release, and there's been two incremental upgrades since then - which I waited for to ensure that things were as bug free as possible. It's certainly got less bugs than any Microsoft software release, ever.

But as you're the world's only perfect programmer (or perhaps a programmer that only ever writes 15 lines of code as opposed to the several million in these forums), you're clearly in the wrong job, and instead of earning the relative pittance that you do you should be Steve Jobs' replacement at Apple.

As for the emoticons, I've done absolutely nothing for them to start working (which they seem to be doing now). I can only presume that the issue with them is to do with a bug in the webserver software &/or its caching - but I guess Barry Oaf should be writing Apache too, and not the world's best programmers.

If you took your head out of your arse for a second and recognised the impossibility to satisfy the infinite variables that a very complex software release has to deal with you wouldn't be the know-all prick that you are. But I wouldn't want it any other way.

Is there any chance you could get the scroll bar thing that would let be switch to different sub forums that use to be on the bottom right corner on the old layout back?

I think it's gone in this version (see the post I made just above for the alternative), but I'll have a dig around later on to see if it's something I might be able to switch on in the settings.

actually, I've just realised that I did do something to cause these to start working again - and that was restarting the webserver.

It was restarted because of something else (a server thread that had become 'stuck'), but the now-working emoticons gets to prove that the issue with these was indeed caused by webserver caching ... so it's time for Barry Oaf to step up and prove he's as smart as he laughingly thinks he is by re-writing apache.

I just showed this to a few other developers. They where very amused :)

are they the same 'developers' who think they could re-write apache better than it is, just as you do?

They're not developers, they're fantasists.

(oh, and its no big secret IP Board provide the forum. They provide pretty much every major forum out there. I get the feeling the issues with the site are too do with your skin on the forum and not their software. Which you probably didn't test properly :D )

well, as ever your feelings are 1000000% wrong, based in the gross ignorance that leads you to make the laughable statements like these that you do.

There's absolutely nothing that I've changed which is outside of how these forums come out of the box apart from colours, aside from the efestivals header bar which effects nothing of the forums operation.

A far safer method to work your 'feelings' about things - anything - would be to take the opposite of what you 'feel' as the actual truth of the matter. It's indisputably the case that from your posts here you'd have a greater factual accuracy in what they say if you adopted that method.

The best thing you could of done is smiled and took the joke above on the chin :) You are just making yourself look a prat now

You need to review the way you test and release things. Your clearly lacking in that area.

There's f**k all wrong with what's been tested and so making this release live.

There was one aspect - that passed you by in its entirety anyway  - that was dodgy, but it was very deliberately left that way at the time of release. There was no point in me spending perhaps a week in addressing those issues if the concept they were a part of was beyond the acceptance of the users here (which I thought it was likely to be, and which it proved to be).

But hey, you earn £100k a year right and I know nothing :)

that's you, that is - you've just proven it by the bollocks you've spouted that you're now trying to pretend was a joke and not the result of yhour (lack of) technical expertise.:lol:

Now do shut the f**k up with your admitted irrelevances you small-minded moron. :)

Come on children. Yes Neil is a bit grumpy but, fair play, implementing any upgrade can be stressful. This board is supposed to be a bit of fun for us all so let's have a spirit of co-operation and not resort to "my dad's bigger than yours" or "I've written more code than you've had hot dinners" type comments.

I never said they where exclusively your fault :) LMAO

You took the decision to release a new forum with errors. Personally I would of resolved any issues offline before throwing it out there :) You know, tested it a bit :P But you believe testing it all was way beyond your capabilities so fair enough :D

Stop throwing your toys out of the pram :) I only meant it as a joke ffs :D

You say "errors", yet you can't point any out - none at all.

So stop talking out of your arse. It's pathetic. :ass:

Liking the wider forum display and the subtle changes to the page display in general and the text size/colour/style or whatever in particular - my cr@ppy old eyes find it easier to read now :)

Missing the news scroller etc that used to be on the RHS but no big deal really as all the relevant news is readily available elsewhere of course, although it does mean you don't get to see updated news items whilst lurking in the forum. Hope the loss of additional Ads isn't going to be a problem.

Confused about avatar/profile pic - but it doesn't really matter and I'll sort it out sometime later ! However, I seem to remember seeing a thread somewhere ages back saying there would only be 1 user pic after the imminent forum upgrade and asking if the existing avatar or profile pic should be used. I thought the verdict was import the avatar so was a bit surprised to see the old profile pic being displayed now that's all.

The only unfortunate thing I've noticed is there used to be a second line to thread titles but it now appears to have been replaced by a line stating who started the thread and when. The 2nd title line was much more useful and relevant IMHO and now it's not there, some old thread titles are obviously somewhat less explanatory than they used to be. Unless the ability to have a 2nd thread title line no longer exists in the forum software, maybe there is an option to display it instead of who started the thread and when as that just seems somewhat irrelevant ?

Well the one I reported this morning has been fixed :)

An error with apache, not the upgrade.

And that was an error that's not possible to test without doing the upgrade. While I have a test set-up, it's not possible to keep that test set-up 100% compatible with the three different servers that efests runs on, which all run slightly different OS versions (because of their different install times).

You stated categorically that that problem was caused by me. It wasn't.

You are clearly happy to point the finger without having the knowledge to justify your statement. That's stupidity on your part, and no stupidity on mine. :fuckyou:

Stupidity like that is nothing for you to be proud of Michael.

I'm uncertain how I'm going to address these issues.

I had half a plan, but which I backed out after the upgrade had been live for a bit after complaints (and which was something I was mostly expecting to happen, which was why I had a backout plan).

Anyway, at some time in the near future there will be a solution in one form or another. :)

It is people's avatars that have been used, which was the result of the votes and comments in that recent trhread.

However, for you (and others) who were using remote avatars (the file was hosted on someone else's server), it's not possible for the new avatar setup to use those.

It seems to be the case that for people like you (who did have a photo hosted on the efests servers) that the upgrade process has made those photos those people's avatars - I wasn't aware that's how it would do things, but it's not something that was possible for me to control during the upgrade process, and it seems a reasonable middle ground for those people who had remote avatars but local photos.

If you want to retrieve your old avatar, you can find it here: http://www.twowheels.force9.co.uk/STUFF/mikeb.gif

I'm unsure if it will successfully remain animated if you do use it - looking at what's possible with animated gifs is on my to-do list, but at the bottom.

If you go to the right of any topic title when viewing a forums index, you'll see a down arrow. If you click on that it loads the first post (plus other posts, dependent on various factors) into the existing page (rather than loading a new page) so you can see what it's about.

I was referring to the chrome issue with inserting images... Not the emotion icons...

I didn't mean to suggest it was 100% your fault... I was just having a little joke about testing considering how you always stick it to me about everything IT related :)

PMSL - well, if it's now "fixed", then that was actually user error because nothing has been changed - so the fault is all yours and not mine at all with that.

Yeah, I use that one as well :)

that's the difference between me and you - you're happy to be a liar. :stinker:

(didn't your god tell you that was wrong? PMSL)

I don't use lies to hide my own culpability. If I've fucked up I'll happily admit it. :)

Meanwhile, you and your glorious skills still haven't got close to spotting the one real fuck up that I have made with this upgrade. ... see if you can spot it before it gets fixed within the next 30 minutes.
