FAO Students and Turnitin

Just wondering if anyone is using Turnitin at their places of learning. More importantly do you know of anyone that has applied for a Section 10 Data Protection Act, which means that your data is not stored on the system.

My Uni has refused my application even though personal details are in some submitted work and I am in the process of contacting ICO.

You do not have an absolute right to have data removed on request, and without knowing the precise details your University was probably right to refuse the request. Read this for the guidelines.

May I suggest that if you don't want certain details stored, you don't include them in your submitted coursework?

For anyone who's not familiar with the system, TurnItIn is an automated (electronic) coursework submission system run by a commercial company. The difference between this and submitting direct to the University is that TurnItIn keeps a database in order to do some (as I understand it extremely effective) automated plagiarism detection.
