VCK
Maybe the support will be Viva Brother then, as I suspected As for Pulp vs Roses, I personally prefer the Roses but Pulp have to be up there for sure. Firstly I think Cocker is a better lyricist than Brown. Both bands released anthems that defined their respective decade and both have written two of my favourite albums ever (The Stone Roses and This Is Hardcore)
mrtourette
On a side note, do people really associate Roses with rock music, more than dance music? I'd always thought they were a dance group personally. I also love a lot of people on the facebook events and different discussions about Heaton Park, calling for Noel/Liam/Kasabian to support. I've never seen what any of these have got to do with Roses music (maybe first record Kasabian), and would love it if Roses went for a support line-up ala Spike. thesecretingredientiscrime
Yes, of course people associate them with rock music more than dance, that much should be obvious. The reason for this is because they are more of an indie/rock band than a dance act. Just because they had aspects of dance music, where included in dance culture and put a lot of faith in remixes (although I suspect most of this was convenient and really due to laziness instead of having to write nnew material) doesn't take away from the fact that they were primarily an indie rock band who could fuse together various other elements to make great music. However I wouldn't be surprised if the support was more dance-oriented than people would assume, and this is what was meant by "most people won't like the support" as I'd imagine the their crowd would be far less dance-oriented than it was back in the day. As for Oasis, their comparsion to the Roses is more cultural rather than musical, being that they came from the same place, had the same sort of fans and sort of 'took over' from ther Roses when they went away to make The Second Coming. This is why Liam and Noel would get banded around as support acts due to them being linked to ther band despite in reality someone like The Bluetones sounded a lot more like the Roses. mrtourette
It's a lazy link, that's why most people make it.
VCK
Most of the Roses music is guitar driven, they had a few songs that were dance influenced such as Fools Gold and Begging You, but they were always a guitar rock band. Ian Brown's solo stuff is way closer to dance than the Roses ever were.

JC-Mo'Fucka
I can remember brown raving on about hip hop not too long ago. He said kanye wests '808s and heartbreak' was a genius album (which he is wrong, dreadful piece of crap - fact), so basically i'm gonna have a long shot at devlin being the support
PurpleFire
Proberbly All Know...Stone Roses are a T In The Park Headliner. Dont know if this has an effect on Reading and Leeds?
mrtourette
Probably but they're also a V headliner, which definitely does. Edited November 9, 2011 by mrtourette
PurpleFire
Just when i thought V were going to completly scrap having a rock edge to their line-up they sign up a band who to be honest the majority of the people there havnt got a clue who The Stone Roses are! My Opinion, due to the heavy amount of kids and yound school leavers who are only there for the dance, pop and RnB acts. It just anoys me when the crowd for Arctic Monkeys is massive but 50% are waiting for I Bet You Look Go On The Dancefloor because they dont know anything else! V SUCKS at this massivly IMO! I just dont think this a great move for V, they should be called The Capital FM festival and let the fully pledged Rock and Punk and Indie Festivals have band such as the Stone Roses! Joe-
Well, you got to give V goers a bit of credit. They've had Stone Roses/Ian Brown t'shirts from Topshop for ages.
