Paul ™
Anyone just watched this? Yet another fantastic programme presented by the legend that is David Attenborough. Some of the scenes were breathtaking, it's fantastic how much effort goes into these programmes. Worth the licence fee alone If you didn't catch it, it's on iPlayer BBC Microsite
modey
Fantastic show, 4 years it took to make, must cost a fortune!
The Nal
Have it recorded. Have you seen Life in the Freezer? Is it any different to that?
russycarps
did you see that bit where the seal stared mournfully into the camera as it got pulled underwater by the killer whales. I was in bits. I hope the bastards go extinct.

russycarps
Thats what the Americans said after that Killer whale ate that instructor a year or so back. Clue is in "Killer". Edited October 27, 2011 by russycarps
The Nal
I remember that. One of the "feel good" stories of the year for me. The practice of keeping killer whales and dolphins in these aquariums for the viewing pleasure of the braying hordes of middle class whoppers with their vile offspring absolutely sickens me, Oh how I love a story where captive wild animals fight back. Like that story where that ghastly womans pet chimpanzee ripped her entire face off and bit her hand off. A real punch the air moment that. Until the horrible faceless cow stabbed it to death with a bread knife.

russycarps
As you say, it's available on iplayer so how/why is it worth the licence fee? I shall be watching it tonight for free thanks.
russycarps
telly like this is the ONLY reason the license fee is worthwhile. I'm getting "strictly come dancing fan" vibes from this Katster
Paul ™
Pretty much what they have said, I hate the TV Licence and the whole way it is enforced on you. 95% of the programmes on the BBC are crap, but every now and then along comes a gem like this series and you get to appreciate how much time and effort goes into them (unlike the numerous reality/food/police etc shows) and thus therefore making it worthwhile paying., Yes you can watch it on iPlayer for free (for now) but I would rather watch it on a 47" HD TV rather than stream it online, then you get the benefit of the HD cameras you have paid for with your TV licence
t8yman
weve had this before, the license fee is great value for money. just look at ITV or channel 5 for evidence of how superior the beeb is....
Katster
Sorry guys I wasn't having a go or anything like that. I am glad that programmes like frozen planet get made. I just personally feel that £174 is a bit expensive for one program!! Ha. I don't understand the strictly come dancing or dancing on ice comment but I most certainly don't watch either of those programs. I don't really watch any programs. I read or play on my ds/iPod whilst most other folk are settling down to watch whatever their program of choice may be.

bunique
I thought you had to have a TV Licence to watch TV via iPlayer anyway? As for chimp lady - it wasn't her pet... but point taken!
t8yman
when a huge chunk of the population are prepared to give that c**t murdoch £50-£60 per MONTH, i really dont begrudge funding the bbc. theres plenty wrong with the organisation, but I think they realise things have to change, the move to salford was a massive right move imho. I know people who regularly pay £100 a week to go to football with their kids, 90 minutes of sometimes shite football. its all relative. russycarps
it always amazes me when people complain about the license fee. Such an incredibly narrow minded view. If noone paid the license fee the program would exist. Not on iplayer, not on dvd. The license money is required to fund the making of the program. £145. That's a couple of nights out of the booze. And there are more programs worth watching than just the frozen planet. There is a plethora of ace telly on the bbc (admittedly a lot of utter shyte too). Pink Floyd weekend the other week was wonderful. The gig in pompeii was sensational. Cant see ITV ever doing something like that. Be thankful for the bbc, it is envied around the world for good reason.

Katster
Mind you, he does say 'programmes' plural? And I agree there have been some fantastic ones. It's £145 a year though, innit.
