P.S All praise for letting this run so long considering your opinion on me. I fully understand that you could have deleted the whole topic at anytime you wanted!!

I don't like to have to play censor about anything. Everyone has the right to their opinion - but there is also the right of others to challenge that opinion, and people often want to forget about that part.

Contrary to what you say, I don't have a bad opinion of you - just of how you chose to approach this. I totally get that you're pissed off because you got 'caught' by how they've done things, but at the same time it is your own doing. And because of that, your approach had no less the lack of clarity that you're objecting to from See.

I've been more than happy to present your constructive comments to See.

right, I'vbe had a response back. It says, in full

We never refuse to refund, have you got his details and we can sort straight away?

It's opt in because people used to come to us after the booking and we weren't able to add it post sale

The vast majority of people untick the box

If joyful would like to send me his/her details and details of the transaction these were added to via PM, I'll pass those on.

I'll also mention the article that jump has linked to above.

the middle point is a very good one here.i presume the only ones who would try to add the insurance post sale would be the ones who are likely to claim.

Thank you for the news about the refund. I will contact Seetickets myself to get it sorted now.

I wonder why, after asking me to pursue things for you, you're now reverting back to doing it yourself?

Anyway, I guess the refusal to refund you experienced was down to that operator for some reason not knowing that they should automatically refund on request.

It happens - I get continual parking tickets for parking on a bit of road where the parking restrictions aren't enforceable because the lines have faded, despite the council's parking services claiming that they're continually training their staff so they don't issue tickets under false pretences. Training can only ever be as good as a person's ability to take it in.

Hopefully Seetickets will also not wait until the new EU legislation that Jump linked to, banning the use of the default tick-box, which is due to come into effect in member states in two years time. It would be nice to see them take the initiative much earlier

While I would agree with that for a more general opt-in box, I'm not sure it would actually be the right way to go in this particular instance. With me having wised up to the fact that the insurance can't be added afterwards, I'm now of the opinion that they've implemented this in the right way and not the wrong way.

As See said in their reply to me, they're not able to add the insurance on afterwards - because of the higher risk of fraud in those instances.

And so while it might not be ideal to have it ticked by default, as they have policy of always refunding any people who miss that it's ticked and buy it in error, it means that the customer is always able to get the insurance if they're wanting it and not have it if they don't want it.

If they were to do things the other way, then there's the risk of both inconvenience to the customer AND of financial loss. But by doing things as they have, there's only the risk of inconvenience. I reckon they've done this in the right way for their customers - tho of course those who buy it in error like you might not think so.

Hmm, I just, when ordering my Bestival tickets, got charged for this, despite unticking the box (and making sure the box was wanting it not refusing it). I've complained quickly, but has anyone else had problems like this since?

(I'm assuming, based on this thread, they'll refund, and I'll kick off if they don't, I'm just curious).
