Gigs:

Flaming Lips at Jodrell Bank

Flaming Lips performing Soft Bullettin

Sufjan Stevens

Roger Waters performing The Wall

Mogwai

Festival Performances:

The Cure

Portishead

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Pulp

Grinderman

I tend to be about 18 months behind on albums, I actually purchase CDs, so tend to wait until the price drops in most cases, so I've not got a vast number from 2011 yet.

I have been to very few gigs this year surprisingly so only 2 standouts for me

Rob Zombie

Monster Magnet performing Dopes To Infinity

both ace.

Albums:

Mastodon - The Hunter

Opeth - Heritage

Machine Head - Unto The Locust

not been a stellar year tbh for me but those three are astonishingly good.

Best non festival gigs: British Sea Power in Leadmill. Interpol in Glasgow. Morrissey at the Villa Marina in Douglas.

Best festival gigs: Interpol at Electric Picnic. Hurts at Sziget. White Lies at Leeds.

Funniest moments: Singing into the Mic with BSP in Budapest and Sheffield. Being passed a bottle of wine by Noble BSP in Sheffield. Doing a stage invasion during the Ordinary Boys on Friday night just gone and having a little duet with Preston. Having two of my students bother me during Interpol at Leeds and some guy turning to me and going "You're their teacher?!?!?" Having a bunch of lads crowd dressed as Minnie Mouse crowdsurf me during White Lies at Leeds. Having my flight back to the Isle of Man cancelled after Interpol in Bristol, then legging it to Cambridge hungover to fuck with no ticket and nowhere to stay, then explaining to the Head that I couldnt get back to the Island, and explaining to him that I wasnt going to sit in a hotel room at Gatwick "with my thumb up my arse feeling sorry for myself." Guestlist was got, as was a cheap hotel and a good time was had by all. The year will be known for me for the respect I got from the Interpol crew for turning up in various places, usually pissed up. Got presented with a signed set list at the end as a little gift. Which I then promptly lost.

Albums:

Chemical Brothers- Further

Austra- Feel it Break

Air Cav- Dont Look Indoors

Does it Offend You, Yeah?- Dont Say We Didnt Warn You

White Lies- Ritual

British Sea Power- Valhalla Dancehall

The Joy Formidable- The Big Roar

Ladytron- Gravity the Seducer

Lykki Li- Wounded Rhymes

Wu Lyf- Go Tell Fire to the Mountain

Haven't actually been to any gigs this year (apart from Glasto) :O that is pretty shocking.

Anyway, top 5 albums of the year

1. M83 - Hurry Up We're Dreaming

2. Washed Out - Within and Without

3. Wild Beasts - Smother

4. Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact

5. The Vaccines - What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?

Interesting one Russy. Good to hear you kept that piece pouched Padré. Don't think ive ever had that kind of experience at a gig to be honest though chief. Risk of a trouser-rouser is close to zero at the shows I attend. Lead singer of Sleigh Bells only possible exception this year. She looks something John Byrne drew in 1980 come to life.

Give it a couple of goes dude. And try not to think of it as going to be like last 2 opeth lps.

Sure, it don't sound like watershed, and it's not as obviously metal, but it's all the more excellent for it.

I get it ain't for everyone mind but 3-4 of my metal head mates adore it too! Album of the year for all of us!
