Shikari are fucking gash, they dont warrant a slot even as high as BMTH got last year, which iirc was 3rd from top on 2nd. they are certainly nowhere near as big as bmth were last year, and bmth fucking nailed it.

im not saying that because i dont like them, they simply arent as big as bmth were.

Enter Shikari are big enough to do 2nd... baring in mind some of the 2nd's we've had in previous years. They typically do long UK tours (30ish venues) and most sell out... some as big as Rock City. 5th Top of Reading last year usually translates to 3rd or 2nd at Download - bit of a tricky one though as the new album will be releasing amidst the Download booking so maybe they'll be taking a small punt on them.

More likely second stage headliner if I really think about it, but they need someone to 'fit' The Prodigy and as Pendulum played last year, I doubt AC has enough imagination to pick anyone else.

As long as they announce Machine Head tonight I'll be happy.

Question for Neil/Efests - What's the deal/difference between someone leaking tonights announcment and a site like your own/Thrash Hits claiming they know certain bands that are playing before they're announced? Surely you guys know who's coming tonight, can't you just put up that 'you're led to believe the following will be at Download'? Or words to that effect.

I think when we're saying 2nd/3rd at Download from a placing at Reading it does depend who they are, but there is no denying that in the eg. of a heavier style sub suitable for both R&L and Download, they could headline at Download quite easily I'd have said. But there is no doubting I don't think that their new album will be huge.

I haven't been a fan of them really but even I'm interested to check out some of it in person.

I think it depends if it's thought that Enter Shikari are liked among Download's crowd as much as Deftones and such like?

I'm more just looking at it that if you book the Prodigy then you arn't gonna stick KoRn, Deftones or Machine Head under them. You're gonna want someone underneath who 'fits' the day and given Downloads history with booking bands like this (i.e. Pendulum and no one else) I can't see anyone else who 'fits' The Prodigy other then Enter Shikari given who Download typically book. Maybe they won't feel a need to stick acts under The Prodigy who would appeal all those people who like the Prodigy and not metal though?

I think Enter Shikari typically appeal more to the Reading type crowd, but then the same is true of The Prodigy and they're headlining. They could be 3rd top but that still doesn't change the fact I couldn't think of anyone fitting to go between ES and Prodigy.

And part of me just thinks Sonisphere will get them anyway, or they'll do Reading again. Either way they'll be at one of those 3 this year.

2nd stage headliner i recon will be : Machine head, Nightwish, Chase and Status, Special guest slots: well logical choice for black sabbath I think would be someone like black label society , Bfmv being the special guests for metallica and pendulum special guests for the prodigy. Other bands I reckon we are going to see on the bill : Young guns, Enter Shikari, Lamb of God, Evanescence, Killswitch Engage, Funeral for A friend, Steel Panther ( pretty sure on this one as I saw andy copping at the gig at the electric ballroom), Trivium ( also a possibility for the special guest slot as again mr copping was at their show )
