Given the DTP is on 3rd it wont be a metal act, someone like Bizkit are more likely to play under Machine Head/headline Sunday if anywhere.

Andy said that the Friday headliner 'should appeal' to classic rock fans. VR, Slash? What do you class as 'classic' though? In 2012 would The Smashing Pumpkins class as a classic act?

Saw that.....Says to me it's someone who's got a big production & they need/want to play in the dark (something I think will hinder Chase & Status massively). OR they know that there'll be a lot of people at Donington who simply wont want to watch C&S and The Prodigy so they've booked a big 2nd stage headliner (like when they had 30STM, The Prodigy). Stone Sour maybe?

Stone Sour could be considered a hige booking if they're only coming over to do Download & then going back the States. I'd love for it to be The Smashing Pumpkins.

I'm really hoping for a strong 2nd stage headliner as I'm not feeling the Devin Townsend stuff I've checked out & am not really fussed with The Prodigy, I'll watch them over someone like 'The Scorpions' but I'd like to be able to go from Machine Head to 2nd & keep up the momentum. I just hope we don't end up with Crue or Whitesnake. These guys live performances are starting to suffer & the insistence of some Downloader's to Andy that there MUST be bands like that at Download led us to have Def Leppard again last year.

I agree they're not headliners any more. But I'd have thought they're still too big to be on the 2nd stage.

And Tool have arguably got larger since 2006. They haven't been in this country since their reunion, and the level of desperation for them is rising and rising. Of course, I'd be delighted if it were them.

I think though, when it was announced people complained how small the venues on Mastodons tour was, and linked it to being a high slot at a summer festival.

Last time they toured im sure most of the venues were 2500 size academies? Or small academies at least.

And they've still sold out Brixton, and most of the other dates of this tour aswell. I don't see them headlining second stage, however.
