Just quickly, Why Not Blur?

Hi.

just saw the announcement of the End of Olympics blur show and also that blur are working on new material.

I'm not trying to be a smart ars, I'm just curious as they're not rummer for V or, that i know of, any UK festival.

If anything they seem more like a feasible booking than Green day or The cure (Ignoring the cures touring plans around R&L dates)

I've probably missed something on another post or something blindingly obvious and i',m sorry if someone else has posted this as well...

commence shooting me down... Now :)

Because they're headling a massive show two weeks before R&L not far from Reading so FR would be wary about the competition for ticket sales. It's likely that the Hyde Park show would draw some tickets away from R&L should be Blur headline, which is why FR always like some kind of exclusivity.

As for V, they'd probably be concerned about the same (although probably less so given the fact that it sells out with apparent ease) but I also doubt they'd have both Blur and Stone Roses headlining together. Way too similar for a festival that draws a lot opf pop fans.

They are being talked about for T (although without any obvious evidence), that's far more likely as the location of their Hyde Park gig isn't likely to put it into competition with T for ticket sales so the organisers would be comfortable that Blur would still sell them lots of tickets.

Damon has involvement in the Olympics as artistic director, so a Blur show there has always been a part of his plans.

I'd guess that pretty much rules them out for R/L. Melvin is very insistant on getting exclusive acts of some kind, and with London being just down the road, and the date only a couple of weeks before, it seems to me that Melvin wouldn't have considered them even if they were available - which I'm not sure they are.

Having said all of that it would be a very popular booking, and I doubt that the existance of that London show would have much impact on R/L sales. So while I think it's unlikely I can't rule out the possibility completely.

Against other info I have tho (which I'm not saying) I'd say it's not going to happen. That other info makes it look very unlikely.

Sigh, that was a bit Blindingly obvious

thinking about it, could see them as a Bloody good weekend ticket seller but not as a individual day ticket as more people would be inclined to go to London, as the concert is part of the Olympics. And thinking about it i can;t think of R&L booking a headliner playing a big show in London in the same year, save ma by pulp playing wireless last year, but due to the 'double headliner' me thinks that was a one off case

The only saving grace would be that because it's attached to the Olympics it attracts so many people that wouldn't normally go (individuals and corporate) that there would still be enough demand for tickets to justify them as worthwhile headliners.
