stylishkids
Now I'm going to sit here and laugh to myself as I called this one about 2 months ago when The Cure first started announcing shows and was quickly passed off for having a crap logic...funny eh. jump
I don't really consider The Cure an album band but I do understand why others do, that being said I do like Seventeen Seconds but my fave track from all their stuff is Push. Benj
In terms of progression their albums go from Post-punk era, to Gothy epics, to their poppier sound, then the modern alternative sound. I wouldn't normally suggest it for a band but I would genuinely say listen to their Greatest Hits album. Work out which kind of era you like best/recognise most... then work your way in that way. you will recognise at least a few of their tracks... more than the average headliner. Personally... Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is their best album. The guitar work on The Kiss is sublime, If Only Tonight We Could Sleep is a dark masterpiece in my view (covered by Deftones for any metal fans... would seek that out.. very good cover). and the obvious classics Just Like Heaven (also covered by Dinosaur Jr... also very good cover). PurpleFire
If Led Zeppelin or the likes were announced you'd probably have to do the same. Are they not worthy headliners either?
Vieuphoria
They've blatantly ripped off Bloc Party on that The Kiss record Vieuphoria lid.
jump
There a massive band but to me they are not suited to R/L. We have other festivals who will have the classic older bands. Sonisphere, Glastonbury, Download...these festivals suit older bands because they have a older audiance! I belive that R/L should be pushing new music and taking that kinda of route. Arcade Fire were a huge sucsess and set the ball rolling down a much faster and steaper hill. Florence and the machine are my kinda of example! Give these new bands a chance instead! Shoot me down! eFestivals
Foo Fighters - nearly 20 years old. Green Day - nearly 20 years old Prodigy - over 20 years old Metallica - nearly 30 years old Iron Maiden - 35 years old (older than The Cure, I think) Yeah, Reading has modern bands. PurpleFire
Im 24... so the majority of those bands had a influence on my life! Foo fighters have been a constant!

mattl
I have just listened to the first song from 'Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me'. Now I know not to judge a band on the first song I've (consciously) heard from them, but if that song is anything even close to indicitive of their back catalogue then we're in for one hell of a treat this summer. dondo
When I first got into the Cure it was when Head on the Door was released which I still think is a superb album but agree with others that Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me and Disintegration are fantastic albums- though Lullaby which a lot of people rate as a great Cure song is actually probably one of my least favourites

kaosmark2
I'm no big Cure fan, tho I know a fair amount of their stuff. But I guess that lots of people won't know much about them. The first thing I'd say is they're not a band to listen to just one track of. Get an album, and play the whole album, in order, like an album is meant to be played. None of that shuffle crap. None of that "i listened to one song and didn't like it". Listen to albums. My personal favourite is the album Seventeen Seconds What's yours? Poppington
Their self-titled album is quality, other than their greatest hits, it's the only Cure album i have.
Vieuphoria
The only album of theirs i do dislike is Wild Mood Swings. Not sure why though. Still think 4:13 Dream is fantastic though

rotheboat16
As much as I agree that it's worth listening to albums rather than odd songs here and there, I have to say The Cure's Greatest Hits collection is an easy way to fall in love with them before taking on their studio albums for anyone who has yet get into The Cure.
