Dont want to hijack the thread but; I do some work with offenders. Now and again it might come up in conversation about victims etc. A hell of a lot of offenders see burglary and even arson as a victimless crime. Why? Because they say that the person would, or even should, have been insured. They place a fiscal value on things, rather than the emotional attachment of putting in your blood, sweat and tears into something.

Theft on any level is an invasion of privacy and it's a crossing a line which some people may not get back from. It may seem like stealing an ipod from someones pocket/A TV from someones house/Tools from someones shed, is an impersonal crime and it's ok because they can claim it back but that kind of invasion effects people and it will probably change peoples views on others in the future.

Sorry if that has made you angry, that was not my intent. I am in total agreement with you. I was just saying the shit some people say to condone their actions. We once got robbed by a next door neighbour and his mate. Why? We were students and our kids had nice things, and his kid didnt. Not the fact we worked for them and went without. When we found out it was a neighbour I challenged his mum who just said "you should have been insured."

Not a client but someone whom I thought was a friend said on thieving. "Put it this way. I only used to nick what people did not want. If they really wanted that stuff they would have made sure it was safe." He was not a friend for long.
