Travel Packages: Trains now available :)

Oh sorry if you live in scotland. Not for you, silly!

I live in edinburgh and have been researching my travel options. I'd love to get the train, but since it's looking to cost in excess of £80 it's not really worth shelling out for.

Here's something that's been getting me vexed though:

3 DAY WEEKEND + CAMPING £159.00.........

GREEN ROUTE TICKET & COACH PACKAGE £179.00 ...........

(A damp stinking packed bus to the festival from the main scottish cities, getting stuck in traffic most of the way.) = £20 extra

ROCKNESS EXPRESS £225.00 ...........

(An exclusive VIP party train chartered all the way from london, stopping at Birmingham New Street, Derby, York, and Newcastle. Directly onwards to Inverness (no traffic), with a shuttle bus direct to the festival site. VIP camping ticket thrown in.) = £66 extra!

I'd quite happily pay £66 for a return train to the site, and wouldn't mind a shower at the VIP campsite while i'm there. But apparently I can't because I live in scotland.

To rub salt in the wound: since the train isn't stopping anywhere north of the border i'd be willing to bet folk boarding the train in newcastle will be on site faster than my bus from Edinburgh.

Don't even get me started on how unfairly cheap this deal is for Londoners. With this sort of ludicrous price structuring, they are getting VIP tickets by default. I can't see how it would make financial sense for them to travel any other way.

Is this getting on anyone elses nerves?

Nope. It's a marketing ploy to get more people to travel from South of the border. People in Scotland are no more than about 3 and a half hours to Rockness, not much.

Also a train from Glasgow to Inverness takes 3.5 hours, as does the mega bus and depending what time your train/bus arrives ANYONE could be stuck in traffic.

If it really matters that much why not get a train Rockness ticket and just use the Megabus to get to Newcastle? :P Only cost you a tenner.

It's being funded by Creative Scotland to encourage people to visit and is only available as part of that to people in England.

It needs to arrive on the Thursday evening as there wouldn't be enough time to travel up on the Friday.
