I was thinking today about Soundgarden. If their new album is released this year as has been said by them, they must be likely to appear at a festival next year.

Having played Download and Hard Rock Calling this year, I can only see R&L and Sonisphere as possibilities for them next year.

If Sonisphere does go ahead I can definitely see Pearl Jam or Soundgarden playing there. If it doesn't go ahead, I could easily see Pearl Jam playing Hard Rock Calling and Soundgarden playing R&L.

Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself. I really want Pearl Jam or Soundgarden to play next year. :(

I do find it funny how Bloc Party fans seem to be in denial to a certain degree about their popularity. Seems to happen a lot on these forums.

Sadly for BP I think their days of subbing at a large festival like Reading are over. I think their chances of headling are minimal, even if they split up and got back together again they're not going to be causing huge ripples.

Tbh if they played reading next year i wouldnt expec anything less than a sub slot or headline nme slot. A lot does hinge on the success of their new album, but i think they just will always pull a big crowd (well at least next year). Plus melvin loves putting bands too far up the line up.

Didn't you say they were in with a shout in your view for Glasto though?

I possibly did, but I'm pretty sure it would have been an "in the future" sort of thing and not "next year".

I think they might headline TITP next year. From what i've heard the Scots go mental over Scottish bands, so I doubt it would be too conversational if they headlined.

As they're subbing at IOW and Download and headlined Sonisphere last year, surely they can't be that far off? Considering Arcade Fire and MCR have headlined in the last two years, and Biffy are bigger than both were before the line up was announced, I really can't see that popularity is really that much of a problem.

yeah, I can see them perhaps headlining T next year. As you point out, there's a reason why they'd work as headliner there before they'd work for a similar fest in England.

not only did they say they've split up, they pretty much said that the music they did with Pendulum was for kids.

/me sits back and waits for their to be a trend about "I always thought Pendulum were shit" from those who've been lapping them up.
