Just had a thought. Where Green Day said they'd perform 'Dookie' if they played Reading and Leeds, it could have been a hint towards being signed up for just that next year? Although 19 years isn't a particularly special anniversary.

And NME this week, in the review of Green Day said that they 'wouldn't be surprised if they were Headlining next year'. Although most of what NME says is Bollocks, just throwing the idea out there.

You found my weakness. Damn it.

Depends what you're in to I guess. My favourite album is Mellon Collie.. but I think recommending a double album as a first listen is a bit much. I'd say Siamese Dream would be worth a listen or two for 2 reasons. 1) It's got a nice varied sound... drifts between softer stuff and grungier stuff. 2) because it's an absolute classic.

as for the other albums...

Gish is heavier. Loads of solos, and layered guitars and such.

Mellon Collie is a work of utter brilliance. Everything about The pumpkins that is good can be found on that album.

Adore is kind of New Wavey. It was totally different to everything. It's softer, abit more arty and lots of synthy stuff. It's a great album but not one I'd say to start with.

Machina is a good album.. not great. Has some stonkingly good tracks but a bit of filler too.

It really is a matter of picking what kind of sound you might be interested in.

as for individual tracks (give you a nice mix)....

Siva

Tonight Tonight

Jellybelly

1979

Perfect

The Everlasting Gaze

Try Try Try

and all of Siamese Dream

To be honest sir (as i'm sure you've already noticed) on on the verge of just sending you all of my cds down and making you sit and listen to each one at least 5 times. So I'll stop now... but hopefully I've given you a decent mix. If you decide you dislike them... come back and I'll try harder.

If (and it's a very big if) they have booked Bush to play then it would be interesting to know why they've suddenly turned to them given that they were probably the biggest laughing stock in 'rock' music until Nickelback showed up. Maybe they think it's safe to put them on now as not many people remember them, or maybe it's part of a deal for booking No Doubt?

I also enjoy Gazza's scattergun approach of projectile-vomiting band and festival names all over the forums, often in a contadictory manner from forum to forum or from day to day. It certainly provides a lot of talking points. Keep up the good work Gazza!

Seriously? They were much derided in the UK due to being passed off as a Nirvana covers band and for abandoning the UK to go and make it in the States. Wasn't simply a case of them not being popular in the UK, they were laughed out of town. Culminated in the semi-famous (at the time) "must have been Kurt Cobain spinning in his grave" remark when there was an earthquake in Seattle on the same night that Bush were playing there.
