Absolutly right, certain people band the word 'rumour' round far too frequently as if it carries some kind of weight when most of the time it means they've just read it on a different forum or message board, have no idea where it came from or whether it's reliable or not. All good fun as long as people take it as the load of nonsense that it ususally is, unfortunately some don't and get arsey when you point it out.

By definition a rumour is based on gossip which may or may not be based in fact.

You're confusing the idea of the Strictly is. It isn't a 'rumour' site like efestivals. It's a fan site. It's a fan site with fans trying to logically guess who will play, which is a rumour. Efestivals rumours are different as they have actual inside knowledge. Two very different sites.

When have they ever said they're anything other than a fan site?

Maybe they do? A rumour source isn't exactly hard to come by. Look I can be one too....

The Kinks are reuniting to play the O2 arena on a 52 date run. Rumours are rumours, think people take this stuff way too seriously.

Isn't efest a fansite? Efest isn't officially aligned to any festival but that's getting away from my point.

Before the line up was announced they heard from their sources The Cure would play NME, Killers would sub, Refused would headline Lock Up and lots of bullshit like that, they were so sure on it they were going to bet money on it or some bullshit. There was also some other crap about hearing Rammstein would fest this year which also came from one of their sources. It isn't that they are posting rumours/specualtions it's that they are pretending it's the real deal info.

Seriously? They were much derided in the UK due to being passed off as a Nirvana covers band and for abandoning the UK to go and make it in the States. Wasn't simply a case of them not being popular in the UK, they were laughed out of town. Culminated in the semi-famous (at the time) "must have been Kurt Cobain spinning in his grave" remark when there was an earthquake in Seattle on the same night that Bush were playing there.

efestivals is a rumour site. Based on providing rumours to people, and a forum for people to discuss it.

Strictly is just a fan site. For people to write about things to do with the festival. There is a big difference.

and yeah their rumours this year were crazy. We all said this. Even people that write on it laughed about it. But they are still rumours, it provided a talking point.

We can all try and act superior, and cosy up to efestivals. But there really is no need. They are completely different things.

They were pretty good back in the day. I know they only really had one song over here, but they really broke America - bigger than Blur and Oasis put together at the time. Saw them at Glasto in 99 and think they were about 4th/5th on the main stage (under Courtney Love's Hole - hee hee)

I disagree with that, you may use efests as a rumour site when it's actually a music festival site in general.

I'm not acting superior, I'm pointing out that they have claimed multiple times in the past they have sources with 100% correct info in contrast to what you are saying (which is correct) that they merely post rumours. What we are disagreeing on is whether or not they present their rumours as inside info.

Can't see it happening. Didn't she pull out of Big Day Out last Winter when she found out they'd be playing under Limp Bizkit? I don't think she has the clout to dictate where she wants to play nowadays or the popularity to be offered a decent slot.

Without some sort of reunion tour or new material Hole will be associated with "that washed-up blonde nutbar with the big lips who used to be married to the guy form Nirvana" by most of R&L target audience, not a good foundation to book a band on.

Exactly. It's a site about festivals. A large proportion of its users come on to find the rumour/lineup sections and read articles and such. That is what they are good at. Strictly are there for fans to write things about the festival. Their output is fan centric, not fact.

No we aren't. I was disagreeing with someone as to what the definition of a rumour is. I have no issue with what strictly way their rumours are. They might well believe their info is insider, if it is wrong then fine... it's only a rumour. No harm done. It's all a bit of fun.

Remember efests has a very different background. It was the official Glasto site at one point.

that's not quite correct.

eFestivals has never been an official site of anything.

Its predecessor (on glastonbury-festival.co.uk) was Glastonbury's official website in 1999. And in 2002 while running efestivals, I was contracted to run the official Glasto website for them.

THEY haven't presented things as fact. Everything that goes up is from one person or another. It was one person who did that, who was then laughed at. Lots. It's just a fan site. Plus rumours aren't to be taken seriously. efestivals gets things wrong all the time.

and yeah I'd love to see Auf Der Maur back. I always feel bad that she was shafted from the the Hole 'reunion' and the Pumpkins 'reunion' even when she said she'd be up for doing both.
