jump
I don't get AC/DC either, just seems like more "Dad Rock" to me.
AcademicPistol
People seem to find it very hard to grasp the most simplest of bands. You don't have to like AC/DC but they have a big following due to the fact they are fun legends.
Mouseboy11
Holding out for Pearl Jam to get booked, would be a great booking ala The Cure.

DL50
Trust me AC/DC are incredible live, there's really not much to get, tunes like Back In Black and Highway to Hell are just classic easy to listen to rock songs They are a massive draw, their last tour was one of the highest grossing that year behind U2 and maybe Bon Jovi, and obviously Back In Black is one of the biggest selling albums ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlHO4V9vWRY So yeah i think they would be an awesome choice of headliner However i doubt they will be there, don't seem to like fests and would probably cost FR a bomb, much more of a stadium touring band
Dead throne
AC/DC are absolutely class live, which 60 year old men do you know that can swing upside down on a bell?

mrtourette
Also in 2009 R&L were apparently after them (although it's mostly speculative) as one of the bookers gave an interview addressing why there was no heavy headliner one of the questions was why didn't you try to get AC/DC and the reply was on the lines of "Of course we try to get biggest names possible and we were in negotions with someone (I remember them not saying the name) but it fell though and Radiohead were available so we jumped at them" that along with the leaked AC/DC tour dates on their website to appear at R&L (although I never saw or if it was actually comfimed as real or not)* makes it seem like it was them. It would also put R&L in better postion from past negotiations (if true) to get them this time round.
jump
That goes against a recent interview with Neil Pegelly wehere he said they put in an offer to get Radiohead as soon as 2008's festival finished. He made it sound like they always wanted Radiohead and tried most years to get them, not that they were available as a replacement.
zahidf
Not AC/DC. Radiohead said no, the festival thought they had Green Day, they didn't, so they went back to Radiohead who said yes.
mrtourette
I specificly remember that interview mentioning Radohead were the last ones booked. I get the impression that it wasn't done as a replacement but simply that negotions didn't work out with AC/DC (if it was them) and they heard back from Radiohead around that time. The emphasis of the interview I read was about the lack of a metal headliner and I remember something about them along the lines of "You can't say no to a band like Radiohead". I wish I could find that interview. Edited September 14, 2012 by mrtourette

rug568
AC/DC are a perfect festival band for me. Would quite like to see them but have no desire to see them on their own shows.

VCK
Oh please, not The Killers. I couldn't think of a more uninspiring choice for headliner. I mean, who would actually get excited at the prospect of The Killers headlining Reading and Leeds? I genuinely think Arctic Monkeys have a good chance, they'll have a new album out, they won't do V and TITP so soon after last time, and of course, they'll be a big draw. They were shockingly poor in 2009 though, but I've heard they've improved as a live band, and now I'm actually familiar with Humbug as well as Suck It And See, both really good albums, I'll probably enjoy it more this time. My money is still on Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys and Blur. An all-British set of headliners, after the whole pro-British vibe of this summer. rug568
They are better at their own shows. If they play a fest it would either mean brining their own stage and fucking up the site or scaling back the show so no giant inflatable women with jiggly boobs riding a trian. ComeCloser
S.O.A.D, Miles Kane, Mona, Frank Turner, Of Monsters and Men, Arctic Monkeys and Weezer. I'd like for most of these to be in the line up some where
Gravyshambles
Jack White could definitely headline main stage I think. It's not like it's just him on stage on his own as he has got 2 bands he can use. He's got so many white stripes songs that he could do as well, would be a quality UK exclusice booking. thetime
That's the thing people aren't going "Oooh Sixteen Saltines is a great song" they are going "Oooh Seven Nation Army is a great song" and it's the same with Noel. He'll be a great sub but headliner is still some time away. Tbh I thought Hotel Yorba was butchered by his band, it now sounds like hilly billy song it's just lacking someone blowing into an xxx jug. So people are bored of Killers but not of Artic Monkees? I would of thought the whole British thing would have done this year if at all but it just seems to tacky to avoid big acts for the sake of national pride. kaosmark2
I would say both the killers and am are uninspiring but they sell tickets. Thats what the average festival attendee wants uninspired bands like muse, am, killers, coldplay and the like.

kaosmark2
The Killers are boring as shit. The Arctic Monkeys wouldn't be an inspiring booking, but at least they've got a few interesting things about them, they do change their sound between albums and don't do it badly.
