mrtourette
Oh please, not The Killers. I couldn't think of a more uninspiring choice for headliner. I mean, who would actually get excited at the prospect of The Killers headlining Reading and Leeds?
Hart Attack
I'd be okay with The Killers... not a big enough fan to go to their own shows, but I quite like a few of their songs and have never seen them before. I'd go see them, assuming no clash. Edited September 15, 2012 by Hart Attack

thetime
Usually there is a headliner that everyone can call a year before, e.g. Foos this year, Muse in 11 and Blink in 10 Which is why i'm finding it really odd that we don't have 1 nailed on yet But consensus seems to be drawing around the Killers being the most likely headliner

Gucci Piggy
Name me one band thats headlined both in same year? Apologies read your post wrong. Edited September 15, 2012 by Will-2609
Dan R
I know its probably nothing, but apparently on the IOW forums, John Giddings said that Green Day werent available for next year. Considering theyre touring next year, this far in advance im doubt theyd be fully booked and the fact IOW don't seem fussed about exclusives.so maybe theyd been booked as a festival exclusivel for R&L? I know its reading too much into it, but lots of people at Reading (and everyone at Leeds) missed them so its not like there wouldnt be demand for them at the festival. Dyad
The Killers are boring as shit. The Arctic Monkeys wouldn't be an inspiring booking, but at least they've got a few interesting things about them, they do change their sound between albums and don't do it badly. kaosmark2
Many people would disagree with you. I would say The Killers have changed their sound more so than Arctic monkeys. As well as changing their sound theyve done it successfully as well. The Killers have more right to headline a festival than any band being suggested so far and would sell more tickets than any suggestion so far, and this is for the same reason that people on here dont want them to headline. Theyre fucking popular. They have 3 out of 3 multi platinum selling albums, I think Hot Fuss went 6x platinum, and the other two went 4x platinum. Name another R/L headliner who have their lowest selling album at 4x platinum? I cant think of one. Arctic Monkeys on the other hand have been becoming less and less popular with every song they make. I think its unfair to call The Killers an uninspiring booking just because you dont like them. I would call an uninspiring booking someone like Foo Fighters last year. Played many times before, completely obvious booking, yet Ive never heard anyone say that that was a bad booking. Loads of people at R/L like the Killers, theyd get a huge crowd, deal with it.
thesecretingredientiscrime
The Killers would definitely be an uninspiring booking. As would Arctic Monkeys. As would many acts who look likely. Kaos was completely right with what he was saying.
DL50
I Agree with Dyad, The Killers are huge, they will sell tickets and they are exactly the kind of band that suits R&L More importantly they are one of the last big guitar bands that can still hold their own in mainstream music, i think they're gonna be around for a long time Edited September 15, 2012 by DL50
DL50
I called the band boring, not an uninspiring booking - even though I agree with others who said that. 'right to headline a festival' is a completely ridiculous concept, but who are you comparing their 'right' to? Pearl Jam? A legendary band with a well-established fanbase, who haven't played R+L in 7 years (by next summer) and headline festivals worldwide? I know they're not as popular as The Killers are now, and I don't have a problem with popular bands headlining. If there aren't enough bands I like, I don't go. I did call Foos an uninspiring booking. I've called them an uninspiring band. They still rocked the festival and were great. 'Uninspiring booking' seem to mean something different to you from what it technically does. It's actually got nothing to do with how good the band is in people's eyes. The Cure were an inspiring booking, Foos and Kasabian were obvious.

thesecretingredientiscrime
Were they?? DL50
Dude the Libertines were not obvious at all, nobody had a clue about them till a week before, i remember this forum going crazy You may have been amazed by The Cure but me and the whole group i went with weren't
DL50
So what does that mean for The Killers then? The Cure headlined Bestival, a small-ish/middle festival which is weekend ticket only, which meant only the most dedicated of their fanbase would commit to going. The Killers headlined V last year, a split site location, one of the biggest festivals in the uk, which I'd assume does most of it's business off day tickets.
