If it sells out very quickly ( which i think it will do) then they must be at least a consideration as a headliner

I can see Biffy get a bump before Mumford as there seems to be a lack of rock/alternative acts and an abundance of indie potential headliners next year.

Depends on how many albums they respectively sell and what sort of money they want off the festival. Mumford will probably sell a lot more albums than Biffy.

Mumford will probably sell more albums this year than any other band that could headline R&L, but it's down to more than that.

Florence sold more tour tickets than anyone this year and has announced another massive tour so is clearly in high demand, but her lack of back catalogue, desire to play/headline other festivals and not quite being the usual type of R&L headliner counted against her and I expect the same things to go against Mumford.

Biffy may not sell as many albums ot tour tickets but are more of an 'R&L band' (I still don't get the impression they're willing to fuck around regarding headliners from different genres), have a big back catalogue, a track record at major festivals and have played IOW, Soni and Download in the last couple of years so would be easier to get as an exclusive.

If that were the only thing against them then yes two albums are (or at least were, I think Razorlight were the last) enough but there would be multiple concerns about them.

Saw The Fratellis at The Leadmill in Sheffield tonight. It was actually a really good performance and one of the best crowds I've experienced at a gig. Would like to see them on next year's lineup. They did play two new songs, so it looks like they're working towards a new album.

Rough figures but Mumford's 1st album sold 2.4m in the US alone whilst Biffy's big albums Puzzle & Revolutions have gone Platinum so 300k copies x2 and their other albums never got to gold/silver.

I know ticket sale demand is also an issue, but it's fair to say that Mumford and Sons live are a more in demand proposition than Biffy.

Saying that, i can see Mumford doing Glastonbury and Reading...

Really? I thought their fanbase was 17-year-olds who read the NME, exactly the audience R/L target. As depressing as it sounds, Mumfords could well headline and they'd shift a fuckload of tickets.

Also to add to the three-year long Soundgarden argument, I think if they headlined the tent they'd get a considerably bigger crowd that ATDI or FNM. Over a sustained period of time they were more popular and have more of a credited contribution to a bigger musical movement (one which still has some sway at R&L) than either of those two. While they failed to sell an impressive amount of tickets for HRC at least they were considered a reasonable option to headline, ATDI and FNM would never have been in the mix, and although this is complete guesswork I would say that a tour would sell more tickets and take in more venues than ATDI or FNM would even attempt to fill. Add to that the fact that they've still only played two shows over here since they reformed and there will still be some interest from mild fans in them due to the reunion factor, although that will obviously be lost when/if they tour. I doubt they'd fill the tent like some of the modern headliners and of course it depends who they're up against on the main stage but I doubt it would be as disasterous as some are suggesting.
