AcademicPistol
Very true. Neil Young with Soundgarden underneath would be very strong.

rug568
I've actually only last night listened to them properly, brilliant stuff. Would they still headline though?

Mouseboy11
There's the the thing. Billy's ego would probably demand it. The reasons i suggested them are that they are not definitely headliners, explaining Neil's 'not necessarily' quote, and the fact they haven't been suggested, and also I love them Would quite like to right the setlist though, not really a fan of Oceania. Also they haven't played the UK in a while. That being said I highly doubt it will be them.
Chinaski_
I've not listened to Oceania. I just downloaded The Great Hits as a sort of starter. What would you recommend as their best album?
rug568
Siamese Dream is number one for me, but Mellon Collie is the most grandiose album. But all their albums are good (bar Zeitgeist). I wouldn't recommend the greatest hits as essential listening, as it doesn't have loads of their best songs on.

Chinaski_
They did an academy tour late last year. I heard they were doing another one later this year or beginning of next year on this very thread somewhere but who knows for now. Makes so much more sense to do their own shows for the latest album than do festivals. In particular this festival, where most people, if they've heard of them, bleat on about how they're not as good as they were, needs the old band back, whatever. Would much rather see them in concert.
Mouseboy11
Even at their own shows people complain about setlists and wanting radio hits sets and whatever, but I'm completely the opposite, I'd rather hear the rarities and album tracks. Hope they stick to playing Brixton type venues next time they're over here, but playing arenas in US on this tour, so doesn't look likely. Just prefer them in a much smaller environment. kaosmark2
I'm not sure that I'd consider anything that Reading has booked for the last 15+ years as an interesting booking.

rug568
Smashing Pumpkins playing the entirety of Siamese Dream to mark it's 20th Anniversary. I would spunk my pants if that happened.
rivalschools.price
Not even The Cure? They weren't an obvious choice and are definitely an interesting band. My fav is Gish, but Siamese Dream is definitely the place to start. Melon Collie is fantastic as well, that trio is just brilliant. I don't rate Zeitgeist, and haven't given Oceania much time yet. VCK
Whilst I enjoyed Smashing Pumpkins when they played in 2007, and they played a load of Siamese Dream stuff on their last tour, after Jimmy's left, the prospect of them headlining again doesn't excite me as it's pretty much now a glorified Billy Corgan solo venture. Obviously I'd still want to see them and it'd be nice seeing some of my favourite songs ever played live again, but the thing is, It'd be like Morrissey playing under the name The Smiths, or Ian Brown as The Stone Roses, etc. I've seen both of those acts play the classics from the former band and whilst there was no complaints from me about the actual performances, they just lacked a certain magic, but at least they didn't pretend to still be in their former bands. However, if James, D'Arcy and Jimmy returned to the fold...would be one of the best moments in music! Edited October 18, 2012 by VCK
