Reading

Friday

Biffy Clyto - I personally think they make total sense as a headliner... doesnt seem many people agree but I will

The Smashing Pumpkins - I would love this but unfortunately dont think Corgan would take going down a slot

Placebo - yes

All Time Low - dont see them coming back to Reading or moving up if they did

Rancid - still think tis just wishful thinking

Billy Talent - yes

A Day to Remember - yes

Twin Atlantic - yes or maybe a bit higher... decent sized tour... bigger than bands like Blood Red Shoes, Cancer Bats and Band of Skulls do... bit unsure though had a low slot this year when def could have played higher

Pure Love - yes

NME

The xx - yes unless they get announced for Bestival again

Alt j - yes

Saturday

Blur - yes

Mumford and sons - still think tis possible.. this or headline

Two Door cinema Club - def think this is possible despite the fact they have played loads recently

Jimmy Eat world - yes

Noah and the whale - yes or tad higher...

Jake bugg - prob more likely for NME? but def could play if not at V

Tribes - don't really see it but def could play again next year

The naked and famous - yes

Post War glamour girls - dont really know

NME

Deftones - yes if not at Download

How to destroy angels - this would be a nice coup for the festival.. would love it and would def suit going into Deftones

Rise against - could prob sub this stage

Silversun pickups - seems a bit big a slot for them... which is a shame as they are incredible but def see them playing

Serj Tankian - be a bit higher or on main but could def play

Sunday

Black Sabbath - yes

Queens of the stone age - yes

Avenged sevenfold - apparently not touring next year

The mars volta - nah, maybe a small chance but would say very unlikely... if anything play NME

Slash - doubt it

Frank Turner - bit higher

Mastodon - prob go for download next year... had tiny crowd in NME

The joy formidable - yes

Trash Talk - maybe a slot lower

Yuck - yes

NME

Deadmau5 - doubt it... seems too big

Crystal Castles - don't see them back again next year

Metronome - ???

Haha yes, I agree with your Biffy, but I'd run out of an option and just see both QOTSA and Biffy playing. Both have new albums, both are loved at R&L and it'll be 3 years since both played.

So do you reckon Sabbath, Mumford and Biffy is more likely? I do get the Biffy headline myself too but think they could be persuaded to sub too. I think Mumford will need to headline to keep from V, a bit like The Vaccines needing to do 3rd I reckon this year due to keeping from V. Difference is I doubt they'd get offered head at V with Coldplay and GaGa as possible options.

The issues is Sabbath, Mumford and Biffy would be smaller (more variety but smaller) than the already weak Sabbath, Mumford and Killers.. the issues is other than Blur (who are possibly ruled out - seems Neil isnt totally sure) there arent really many other headliners I can think of who haven't played recently. It also other than Sabbath seems like a perfect V lineup... Unless it comes to light another big band is touring next year it feels like Reading could be in trouble.

Could be a reason why although not seeming big, Mumford sell a silly amount of tickets and quick. UK Exclusive headline set, would mean I reckon that Biffy will share with T - as that looks quite likely to happen too. Sabbath would also be UK exclusive, interestingly too that Bill Ward may end up after recent comments I read doing future shows with them, so it'd be something that Download didn't quite get.

I realise that people will moan about this but everytime you come on, you talk sense lol.

sabbath - yes

qotsa - yes

placebo - yes

jew - yes

frank turner - yes

mumford - yes

bloc party - yes

the xx - I still have issues.. def big enough and would be an interesting booking but I still think if offered this sort of slot they would choose Latitude or Bestival... although they could do Latitude and this

white lies - yes

deftones - yes

biffy clyro - yes

jack white - yes

vampire weekend - yes

maximo park - yes

friendly fires - yes

i still reckon jew could be 5th but not sure who could slip in there. and as you say with the xx, if they headline bestival this time, they would possibly warrant a sub slot

There's pretty much always been one band on the cusp of headlining getting the push up to the headline spot... 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2004 etc all had it. I think the odds are pretty likely a band like Mumford or Biffy will headline... doubt both will but we really need to see some more bands announce their intentions to tour to be able to tell properly. TBH I'm still leaning towards Mumford and Sons going all over the place... headlining Latitutde and subbing Reading... similar to what Arcade Fire did in 07 just with playing a few more places... If so I can see the top six being Biffy + Bloc Party, The Killers + Mumford & Sons (reminds me alot of Saturday this year) and Black Sabbath + Queens of the Stone Age. Which imo is a pretty strong lineup... Classic headliner in Black Sabbath, established headliner in The Killers, a new headliner who have headlined a major festival before in Biffy (they headlined in the most succesful year of the festival), two established subs in Bloc Party and QOTSA and one of the biggest current acts in Mumford and Sons. However, if Biffy decide to tour everywhere like I think Mumford & Sons will then yes they would be a very weak headliner and shouldn't happen.

Hinting at a new album won't be enough. If they haven't started working on it yet then it won't be out before August next year, which makes it very unlikely that they'll be relevant enough. As kaosmark said they've already headlined on the back of the reforming buzz, without that buzz I can't see them being booked again to play the same set of songs.

It's likely that Mumford will hit the festival circuit hard next year, and that will include either V or R&L so there's a 50-50 chance. Of course of the likes of Glastonbury or IOW book them to headline that dramatically reduces the chances of them doing R&L, but as it stands at the moment (with nobody having any real information) it's a reasonable assumption that they will. It's also a reasonable assumption that they won't, but hey-ho.

My only issues now is I dont think Biffy will close either weekend... prob Sabbath close Reading and Mumford close Leeds... plus yes Mumford would prob be an exclusive headline slot but I'm not sure it would mean as much if they took lower slots at Glastonbury and T in the Park.. they would be a headliner that would draw tickets.. but I still think that headliner set is weak.. but at the moment it may be the best we get.. at least Biffy have a very strong sub but even the subs arent anything compared to this year or the year before.

No, I thought as well, Biffy wouldn't close either, would have to play friday at one and sat at another, but I can't see Sabbath being risked on the closing but it is a more inconic band to close.

Thing to remember with Biffy is they said last year they would return to do loads of festivals as in next year, this might be what keeps them at sub. I could imagine R&L, T, Bestival having them? But don't think Glasto will.

On that logic, it says Mumford to headline to me personally.

Biffy wont do Bestival... not really their scene... they did IOW, Download and Rockness last year... headlined Soni recently... dont think will go to V as V won't give them the best slot (... could easily see them headline both T and Reading as I'm sure T management hinted at them headlining before (and with having closed Rockness they must be likely) and they are much more likely to headline Reading if they headline T... The only issue I can see is if they play Glasto as if they play there then they won't headline Reading... Reading, Leeds, T and Oxegen is four festivals so a fair few before even hitting Europe which I think they will try to break next year. It's gonna be Mumford or Biffy but Mumford have tons more places they can go and think they will want to take Babel to as many audiences as possible and let's face it if they sub Glasto, IOW and Reading they will get headline size crowds at each.
