But The Prodigy have a lot of crowd interaction, even if it is just shouting "All my f**king people!" :L don't Daft Punk essentially just stand atop a pyramid? I get that top DJ-ing is a skill, but seeing it live just isn't my thing, I can listen to a CD anytime. Yes they might have all of these lights, but shouldn't an act headline because of their huge popularity and their successful music and records than because of a light show and not touring often?

IMO Daft Punk would headline, i think a lot of people are underestimating just how big the are, there Homework album was critically acclaimed, they have been nominated for several grammys and you dont write the whole soundtrack to the Tron Legacy film if you aint big, i understand they may not be as popular in the mainstream as acts such as The Prodigy and Pendulum, but just because they are not does not mean they couldnt headline there are many acts that arent massive in the mainstream that have headlined R&L so to rule them out for that reason would be silly, they would be an inspired booking but unfortunately i cant see if happening.

I saw daft punk at global gathering in 06 (first uk show in ten years).

They headlined the 2nd stage whilst groove armada headlined the main.

Daft punk were offered main stage but asked for 2nd so the could play in the tent.

Is rockness' 2nd stage a tent? Could be why they didn't headline main that year too.

They are not necessarily smaller, in the mainstream yes but overall no. Bands like Metallica arent massive in the mainstream, yet are probably one of the biggest bands on the planet and would headline so thats all im trying to point out, like when Arcade Fire headlined many people didnt think they could/should but they did, and i honestly think Daft Punk would aswell, they would need to anyway for there stage set up, plus they are known globally which would be seen as a coup for R&L, my opinions of course :P

Metallica have had three UK no.1 albums and have never failed to go at least gold with an album in the UK though, i don't think they are really comparable. And even Arcade Fire have outsold Daft Punk in the UK, and they were considered a small headliner at the time, so i just can't see why people think that Daft Punk are that big over here

Your going to get more dance acts now though imo, wheres the new guitar bands that are going to be big enought to headline festivals?

Daft punk would headline as they dont tour that much, the same reason the cure are headlining, the same reaon blink headlined and the same reason why it hasnt sold out with foo fighters headlining.

I'm not really a dance fan no, but i can see that they haven't sold as many records in the UK as the majority of R+L headliners in the past ten years which to me gives an indication of their comparative size and popularity. Plus the fact that R+L isn't a dance festival, which in my eyes makes them even less of a big deal

Thats the problem with the current state of uk festivals.

Lets keep dance acts at dance festivals, lets keep metal at metal festivals. Why not mix them all together and perhaps thats why glastonbury continues to thrive is the mixture of all types of music(minus metal). For reading and leeds to thrive it perhaps need to get dance acts to headline as fuck me the headliners dont sell with there little guitars.
