Can anyone remember any of the inital outcry and the line up other then Jake Bugg and Mackelmore?

Just wondering if like last year Melvin has actually got acts which grew into there slots or if the outrage still remains?

Obviously Blink on here but not anywhere else but struggling to think of anyone else

Wait until some of the big ones like Glasto and T are out the way, see who gets a huge reaction and following and then it usually works like that.

Don't shoot me, but I'm kinda over the whole "Jake Bugg is too weak to be a sub" thing because no matter which festival you go to this year that he is playing, he's got a big slot.

That's quite funny to be fair, the only reason him and the other efests Twitter crew went in the Beni forum was because Matt Davies was getting stick.

I think I ventured in there after a lot of other people. And I had a reason to go there as I was (slightly) considering buying a ticket as some mates are going.

Plus I had to defend myself from the abuse I got after stating my opinion on The Beatles :P

I think the only things which received much criticism were Jake Bugg, Macklemore, Blink, Courteeners and Imagine Dragons. Obviously Blink was mainly down to them having headlined recently, but the other three were based on size. Don't think any of them have grown at all since the announcement. It's not like last year with acts like A$AP Rocky, Azealia Banks, Major Lazer and Disclosure in prominent slots, who were still on the rise post-announcement.

Coheadliners got criticism. Foster the People and Papa Roach should have. But yeah, there's not THAT many, it's more the overall lack of anyone exciting on the lineup.

Foster the People are about right for what was projected. FR had no idea their follow up album would be largely ignored. Sleeping With Sirens should probably have been criticised more to say most thought a couple of acts would slot in ahead.

I guess, but it's been a while since they bumped quite so many acts up and got several badly wrong. You're right about Sleeping with Sirens though.

Ah yeah, that's true on the coheadliners. But again, it was mostly down to not wanting coheadliners, rather than them not being big enough. Most expected one of them to headline.

Just wondering because I'm a first time goer. With the normal weekend ticket it is possible to get to the front of the main stage right? I'm asking since I saw pictures with a gate like halfway through the crowd.

Thanks

Yeah, you can go wherever. That gate/fence is standard at festival/outdoor gigs now to ease the pressure on the front of the crowd

I reckon Foster the People were booked because they expected them to be more warmly re welcomed than they were.

This is the highest they'l ever play at reading I reckon. They'l slide down the lineup dramatically in the future I reckon.

Expect them to be low NME next time they play, like Twin Atlantic are this year.

Steady on. They haven't played yet. I doubt they'll play low NME. Most bands that peak just don't come back and are replaced with the next short lived flavour acts.
