I reckon that's too predictable for Rob

Any more predictable than Snoop, I'm not so sure?

Something like: Diana Ross, Arcade Fire & Kanye West I could see working pretty well. I guess part of what makes Bestival so great is the unpredictability though.

Anyway slightly off topic... I can't see Kanye doing R&L next year, maybe somewhere down the line but there are options much better suited to him. Plus if he went on a rant like he did when I saw him at the Big Chill Festival in 2011 I suspect a few bottles may be thrown at R&L.

Definitely more predictable than Snoop. Snoop wasn't really speculated at all, it was his first UK date when announced, and Kanye is more 'mainstream' anyway. Plus you'll get people going 'ooo, wonder who they rap headliner will be next year'. He'll pull something else out of his box of tricks.

But yeah, this is the wrong forum :P

New QOTSA song has confirmed for me my believe that they wont headline. Don't think its commercial enough at all. But then again, when you get bands like Arcade Fire headline who knows?

I understand that's your belief; but they were never gonna bring out a middle-of-the-road stadium rock album to break into a wider conciousness. The 'breaking the mainstream' factor is going to be if people take to them rather than vice versa, and if their album has enough publicity on release (on track - NME website reports on them once or twice a week now, which is ) and whether they're still being talked about for the few months after ...Like Clockwork is released.

But that's not me making my case for them. I've already said I don't think they'll play European festivals next year.

They won't. As much as I love QOTSA I really don't see why so many people on here are convinced they'll headline one day.

Arcade Fire were on an upward trajectory when they headlined, having released one of the most acclaimed albums of the 2000s in Funeral. QOTSA have had a sort of cult status for the past 10 or so years. They can play 2nd again easily, but headline? Doubtful.

Yep, completely agree. And yes to dental plan that they were never going to make a stadium rock normal type rock album, but I figured that was the only factor which might have helped them. Another songs for the dead might have done it, with its short catchy song like formula for the most part, but this new track sounds more experimental then ever!

2014 festival lineups (updated I know but shh)

I'm also gonna give reasons why I think they will have these lineups... Okay go...

R&L : Queens Of The Stone Age, Metallica/Blur, The Arctic Monkeys

Why? - Reading always has a bump up headliner, a band that has played the festival countless times before, and regardless of if they are strong enough or big enough, reading gives them a headline set. Queens of The Stone age's new album is shaping up to be pretty big! I think the hype will be re attracted and many youngsters may discover and become new fans. Plus I think it's about time they headlined something. Metallica could return however I think the festival wants to move away from metal, they don't want to drop it entirely, so they add the occasional metal-ish sub or heavy-ish band. I think blur are more likely though, the UK festival circuit needs them to return, I would say glasto might snatch them, but it would ruin the beauty of their 2009 set. The arctic monkeys after their glasto set are going to back to becoming incredibly popular, almost like they were in 2007... if not more, I can see them headlining Coachella next year because almost every day they grow in america. Reading is the only festival which has the longest gap since they've played, their gonna be a fresh and new developed band with a new album out, and if Reading doesn't go for them next year they are making a silly decision.

(Readings getting the longest paragraph because it's related to the topic).

Glasto: Arcade Fire, The Stone Roses, Fleetwood Mac (Biffy Clyro sub headlining one day)

Why? - Short and sweet, Arcade Fire at glastonbury needs to happen, surprised it hasn't yet... The Stone Roses were wanted for this year but IOW and hyde park made it complicated. Fleetwood Mac were asked to play this year but couldn't, but have registered intrest in this year.

IOW: Biffy Clyro, Aerosmith, Muse

Why? - Muse at iow needs to happen again, Biffy are gonna be the festival whores of next year, everyones gonna want them because they are truly going to smash it at reading!

V Festival: Mumford & Sons, Rihanna.

Why? - Reading will try and get Mumford & Sons but V-festival will snap them up, Rihanna will return to headline because V loves recycling, don't know why their logo isn't green.

T In The Park: Blur, Biffy Clyro, Beyonce

Why?- T likes recycling too! Plus Biffy Clyro at T next year is just bound to happen!

Download: Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day

Why? - After Green Day's reading set, download will get hungry and want to book them, (same with Nine Inch) and Pearl Jam would be the best if they booked them!

Bestival: The Strokes, Atoms For Peace, Vampire Weekend

Don't ask why, just had one of my famous hunches!

Hard Rock Calling: Aerosmith, Mumford & Sons

Wireless: Daft Punk, Lady Gaga

V Fest: Drake, Kasabian

Latitude: The XX, Massive Attack, Morrissey

IOW: Aerosmith, Prince, Mumford & Sons

One of the headliners next year will be Blur or Metallica. Why? I have a theory.

The big headliners in 2011, Muse headlined after they headlined in 2006. The following year, 2012, the big headliners Foo Fighters returned headlining 2005. Then this year, 2013, will see Green Day headlining after their performance in 2004.

Do you see a pattern emerging? Add a number of years to 2011, subtract the same number of years from 2006, and then the big headliner for however many years after 2011 will be headlined by a band who headlined the same amount of years before 2006. So next year, three years on from 2011, will be 2014. Three years before 2006, in 2003, two of the headliners were Blur and Metallica. So this theory, and this pattern, shows that one of them will headline.

Well, that and the fact that both will probably be available next year.

I'm sorry but you'd lost me by the end of that first sentence. So are you saying we could get Crystal Castles, Enter Shikari or Frank Turner headlining next year as well?
