the wonderwhy
Arctic Monkeys are certainly more popular amongst the average R&L goer than Muse, I'd say they're possibly on par with Foo Fighters, people love Dave Grohl for some reason. Either way I'd say Arctic Monkeys are the biggest (realistic) band they could get next year & I'm pretty sure they'd sell a lot of day tickets, but every year it seems people make bold claims "Muse" "Foo Fighters" "the Cure" "Eminem" have all been "guaranteed" by people on here to sell out day tickets , the reality I think was slightly different... Nobody ever said The Cure would sell out day tickets. Eminem probably will sell his day, although they can always add more tickets to that if they think they're not gonna sell out weekend tickets, so its difficult to tell I guess. Frankly Mr Shankly
Nobody ever said The Cure would sell out day tickets. Errm I assure you they did. I remember the conversation well. So pipe down. In fairness the Cure had the worst under card I've ever seen at R&L. (Not that they would have sold it out anyway, just that it didn't help I'm sure.) Anyone with any sense knew they'd never sell out, the other 3 were clearly possible.

Well that was kind of my point, every year someone claims one of the headliners will sell out day tickets & it hardly ever happens. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make... Nothing, other than The Cure seemed out of place in your list as it was evident they'd never sell their day out whilst the others you mentioned all stood a chance. the wonderwhy
The Cure were easily of the band of the weekend last year for me. Great fun & a near perfect set list. Then I saw their Rio setlist...

Well as I say, those are the conversations I remember. Some fan boys fail to except/see the truth I guess. With regards to the Maccabees, I like them but last time I saw them they bored me. I wouldn't have chosen them over the Cure in a million years. Edited April 7, 2013 by Frankly Mr Shankly

Frankly Mr Shankly
The Cure's Leeds setlist was brilliant, but when I saw them at Optimus Alive the month before it was pure perfection.
Matt42
The cure are not popular in the UK anymore, the youth just don't like them... (i'm a youth too so I understand this!) Arctic Monkeys (with how situations are going), are the big band for next year. If reading does what I think they should do, "book them on a festival exclusive next year" closing the sunday. It will be massive, Glastonbury is gonna pulse them back into the public eye, next year Arctic Monkeys are gonna be THE act every festival wants. Just like Mumford & sons were this year... I'm a 'youth' & they're my favourite band. They're popular enough to headline festivals, that's all that matters.
