Lineup 2014

Four year repeats though... :nono:

I think 4 years would be acceptable for a band like Arctics or Foos, who are the biggest possible sized acts suitable for R+L. It'd be a disgrace if 4 year gaps were a regular thing, but I never bought the '5-year rule'. The difference with Blink is that they're questionable size, a fair number of us were questioning whether they could be a sub - I don't think they're that different in size to SOAD with the reunion factor now gone. Arcade Fire, KoL and RATM I all argued played too recently, while I didn't say that for Arctics because of the difference in size (and with regards to RATM amount of material released as well).

It's a fucking short time for a weak headliner to be recycled though.

To be fair i'd be saying that same about Arctic Monkeys had they not released two #1 albums and got a haircut.

If they never got haircuts and leather jackets and released R U Mine completely alien to their album, they'd probably have decreased in relevance, not gained many new fans, lost a lot of old ones and still headlined Reading + Leeds 2014.

still not sold on the arctics info though

If arctics, Blink and a strong coheadline thing is the headliners, I can imagine it shifting most tickets, remember the undercards do pull alot of attention too! Not just about the headliners.

if they book sabbath as the "british headliner" and give the monkeys a miss, it'l sell out.

Paramore were flamed in 2010, not so much in 2012, I personally thought they were shite still, but as a whole the performance seemed better.

Blink reception was positive post festival 2010 and they blew paramore away.

Yeah it's a little early to repeat a headliner, but with 2 more albums (maybe, after it took them so long to release neighbourhoods and a year delay in the arena tour because of it) at least they are gonna have new material to play (not that many would wanna hear it over the 'old hits') is no difference to having Arctic's play after 2 more albums and a truly awful performance, even though they have a year extra in between.

I don't think Arctic's blink and paramore (even with a better Co headliner) are a particularly strong set of headliners but that's mainly based on past performances. However it looks just as strong as last year's top three.

If the subs and undercard turn out some gems as good as last years I would be tempted to go.

Like others have said there have been 7 acts announced, and after last years first announcement I wasn't that impressed other than with deftones. If I remember rightly Eminem also got a negative announcement.

I wasn't sold on last year until NIN SOAD and Biffy were announced. So I'm reserving all judgement until we have a fuller picture of the line up.

Arguably the biggest headliner in the world who hadn't played since 2001 - Eminem

A legendary pop punk band that rarely play in the uk and hadn't played since 2004 - Green Day

An Up and coming band who had already headlined soni, and then had a number 1 double album - Biffy Clyro

compared to:

A 'Legendary' pop punk band that only played 4 years ago. - Blink 182

Admittedly probably the biggest current band, although extremely over exposed, also only 5 years ago - Arctics

A 'up and coming' pop punk band not seen ready to make the step up by most, although number 1 album but long term sales weren't extraordinary who will have played 3 times in 5 years - Paramore

Admittedly a legendary 'up and coming' band, however arguable can't make the step up - Qotsa

RATM - 2008 - 6 years is fine if the others can do it, especially if blink can do it in 4...

Heard that Sabbath would be the last Download's headliner

If they were going to get a band back after 4 years they could have at least got Arcade Fire.

I want to know whats happening with Slipknot, Black Sabbath and Pearl Jam this summer, seems awfully quiet on their fronts and would have expected them to play some english fests/fest

The main difference, I think, between SOAD and blink is that blink have more material to offer a festival headline slot. SOAD had basically played the same slot twice at download so r&l weren't willing to take a punt on it.

#WhynotRATM is the same reason really. Same show has been done on their last 5 UK shows T, r&l, download and Finsbury and probably the time they toured before that.

I'm a big rage fan,but I hope if they are to play again it's either a long way in the future, or the preferable option of a new album.

PJ at some hard rock calling thing (or equivalent) would be nice... :)
