1. Luckysalt said Arctic Monkeys are one of the headliners.

2. Luckysalt said there would be co-headliners.

3. It won't be QOTSA 'and' Prodigy. -> one of them could still be headliner

4. There is a high chance for Paramore to be one of the headliners

No silver linings...

NME headliners. By god reading, please remember those great bookings of FNM, Ash, Janes Addiction, Manic Street Preachers and GET SOMEONE GOOD

Just read through. Love you guys, always a great read on the Reading forum.

Just my opinion here, I've done over 20 fests done a hell of a lot of gigs and still never seen Blink. So to me they're a good booking. The only UK festival they ever do is Reading. Never done Download, Soni, V and as far as Im aware Glasto or TITP [certainly not since they got to headline status] and they're a UK exclusive. So its a good booking.

Thing is, I understand people saying 4 years gap, but thats quite a while, I know theres a certain amount of people who go every year but I doubt theres that many people who go to the same fest year after year. But look at fests like Download who suffer the same bookings year after year. Bullet in high positions, Linkin Park back again. Seriously they should've worked things out and Download have Blink and Reading have Linkin Park and freshened things up a bit. But hey thats what happens I guess.

I'd be more fucked off with Jake Bugg rebooked in a high slot, seemingly Foals will be [i have no information on this], BMTH might be back again too. But hey if you don't like those acts you would be, if you love them you wouldn't mind I guess.

For me next year seems to be all aimed at the kids. I still think V will have Jay Z and The Prodigy and Reading is doing the best they can to face that competition.

The co-headliner thing come on man, you know who they are! I already said all other headliners than Arctics are US bands.

For me im happy with the headliners, never seen Blink, Arctics I haven't seen since Humbug tour, the one of the co headliners I just saw on their arena tour and we all agree they're ready for the step up and they're in my top 5 bands and the other co-headliner, I've only seen them once back when Arctics did that humbug arena tour, they did an arena tour the same time [think it was the same week] suppported by YM@6 and it was full of screaming kids who ruined it, so I'd like to see them again without the screams they have some good tunes IMO. :)

Anyway.... Rant away. :)

I hate the arctics but I can't deny the almost magnetic pulling power they have for the vast majority and they are probably the biggest British band of the last decade. So yeah, it would (and will by the sounds of things) be accepted. Tickets would sell.

Yes they are, but they have basically played most places in the UK over the last couple of years and only played the year before Blink 182....it's hardly the imaginative or different booking people supposedly want.

Arctic Monkeys would have been okay because they are Arctic Monkeys

and Blink-182 would have been not... well, because they are Blink-182

Yes they are, and the current love in with them confuses the hell out of me.

Exactly. I'm in the same boat literally but my 1st weekend was 06. But up until now the headliners have been different, varied, and the lineups have been interesting. I will give this a chance, but it's the worst 1st impression I've had ever.

That's why I commend andy copping for booking avenged to headline, and at least he's making sure linkin park play their universally held best album in full. Soni have got 2 of the biggest metal bands ever, despite being repeated.

Reading has repeated a shit little pop punk band. RHCP would have been better then this.

Yeah... seriously the worst announcement ever

While I agree with most of what you're saying, I don't like this tendency for festivals to advertise bands as doing full albums or special sets to help justify recycling them. The ATP Don't Look Back series is a bit more special because it's ancient albums and the bands are still releasing and performing new material. Seeing Sonic Youth doing Daydream Nation was an exciting change from seeing them play 2/3rds off the new album, seeing Metallica do The Black Album (in reverse) wasn't much different from seeing Metallica do any other set. It didn't feel any more special, it was just a gimmick to try and refresh an act that haven't got anything actually new to offer.

Desperately looking for a silver lining here.

If anyone has the time can we please list all the clues we've been given regarding next years headliners?

I'm just looking for a bit of hope regarding the other headliner being Paramore or Arctics

There is only one straw to clutch at... That Neil took down the arctics rumour, we can hope that part of lucky salts information is incorrect... but I doubt it :(

Except these are all clues from Lucky. Could it not be that just because the source got one thing right, they haven't necessarily got the other two/three headliners correct? If Neil is willing to stand by his decision to remove Arctics from the rumours page, then surely he knows something substantial? And after the press release he still hasn't ammended it? That's got to mean something hasn't it? I get the feeling I'm clutching at straws here.

Regarding Paramore also, the only information we've got regarding them is that they're "likely" to headline based on a comment from Lucky that people have interpreted, is that right? Yes Melvin likes them but if he were to have Paramore co-headline, it would have to be with a band of similar size & surely Melvin would know that having three out of four headlining bands being reasonably small would be a bad idea? (Sorry I'm having truble getting my thoughts into writing)

(and I'm not saying Lucky's wrong, I respect him a lot for trying to give us the information without people jumping down his throat)

Same, but that's because I desperately want to avoid them :P

Anyway, cheers for the info and fair play on getting it and sharing it. I know I doubted your source because I couldn't believe the turnaround but I'm glad the idiots calling you a bullshitter haven't put you off letting us know what you can.

Enjoy the fest. I'll be far away.

Blink ain't that small and had huge crowd in 2010.

Above lucky has just almost stated that the coheadliners are Qotsa and paramore

I really doubt it. None of us considered Blink a viable proposition before Lucky mentioned them and that was half our reason for not believing his source.

I think you've just entirely ignored the point that no matter how good a source Lucky has, the source may have got it wrong the other three times.

Again, no disrespect to you Lucky, it's pretty much all wishful thinking from here on out and I'm just trying to think about ways out of this mess

Yeah it's QOTSA and Paramore

QOTSA recently went through successful arena tour and they are the most obvious step-up

For Paramore, just found out that You Me At Six supported Paramore in December 2009

No but blink is shit.....because they are awful. Could they not have thought of any other headliners around, and maybe upped the paycheck to get someone decent come over. To me I feel it was probably blink saying they wanted too and reading booking them on the cheap to save for arctic monkeys.

Thanks for confirming queens and paramore.....it's gonna be like shifting through a sewer full of piss and shit to get to a beach on the otherside.

But live - blink are poor in terms of sound. AM are poor in terms of energy. QOTSA can be poor in terms of both or great. Paramore are just horrible to listen too. So it's a pretty fucking massive thumb down from me!!

Oh no I agree, but it's at least abit of an incentive. If you're having to rebook a headliner so soon, at least try and make it different. Downloads always and always will suffer from that by having a niche market. And at least like I say, hybrid theory is an acclaimed album from a lot of rockers. No blink album has that pulling power.

It may be acclaimed but it's still shit :P
