Lineup 2014

Also, to anyone saying not to write it off because of 7 acts, I think most are also taking into consideration we've been told Arctic Monkeys and Paramore (plus one more co-headliner) are headlining. All in all, fucking arse.

I'm with Kaos, it'll take Tool to get me to go.

Does anyone know the positions of everyone?

Blink-182 - headliners

Jake Bugg - main stage (guessing 3rd?)

Disclosure - NME stage (headlining?)

Metronomy - NME stage (headlining?)

Of Mice and Men - headlining rock stage (who the fuck made this decision?)

Wilkinson - dance stage (headlining?)

I am Legion - 1xtra (headlining?)

Edited to add: I'd rather cut my leg off than see any single one of these acts.

I doubt Metronomy would headline, aren't really big enough and I don't think they'd burn two NME headliners in the same early announcement. Probably 2nd/3rd.

I agree about Of Mice And Men, a good band to sign up but headlining that tent? Maybe they have a new album and impending teen indie rock stardom beckoning.

I saw the line-up and thought you chaps in here wouldn't be taking it so well, but it's worse than I thought, you're all bloody suicidal in here! Chins up, all of you, they could still announce RATM! And you've got Metronomy, they're great. I know Blink are shit, but you guys remember who headlined Festival Republic last time Blink were on? British Sea Power! And Klaxons were on NME.

Don't listen, he's just trying to make people feel positive about buying an R&L ticket to reduce the number of people after a Glasto re-sale ticket.

Get him!

Im more pissed off about Jake Bugg then Blink :(

What has he done to deserve such a high spot (especially playing three years in a row!) and it really does suggest a weak line up!

Should have let him go to V

It's been obvious he's going to be an R&L house act since the start, he's worked his way up the stages and with a pretty successful second album released since he last played (and main stage slots at other festivals in the Summer) it's not that much of a surprise. Expect him to take 2105 and probably 2016 off while he writes his third album/rediscovers his sound/gets fucked on drugs at Playboy parties and then he'll be back subbing.

Basically he's running the same plan as The Vaccines but a year behind.

Don't worry, you're not the first person to come on here, spout a load of shite, get ripped for it, then back it up with "You're all pretentious and only like pretentious bands ner nerr!"

What's particularly funny about it is that pop-punk is, by the definition of the word, more pretentious than any of us are.

The subs are going to be so shit because I can see Foals, Vampire Weekend and You me at Six taking the next slots up. Which is no offence to those bands as I like all 3 I just don't think any of them should be subbing a festival of Readings size. Saying that I saw Vampire Weekend at the MEN and they were brilliant so wouldn't complain if they did sub, my problem is the other subs could be those. Not making out for good foundations of a festival lineup...

The only silver lining is that I could go check out Rock Werchter and maybe go reading for the best day once more acts are announced. And I now see Weezer more likely just because they have played with Blink alot, so fingers crossed!

theoretically speaking, who are actually contenders for the other two headlining spots? Would be so gutted if its Paramore, I made it my buisness to be so far away from thier set in 2012

Well if you go by luckysalt (who nailed Blink quite a while ago and has previous form) it's AM and then two US bands co-headlining.

Do you think the two co-headlining US bands are going to be step up bands or bands who've headlined before?

I dunno, it's natural to assume it'll be step-up bands who aren't quite big enough to headline (ie QOTSA and Paramore) but then again the only time it's happened involved The Strokes as previous headliners who 'stepped-down' to co-headline.

It probably depends on the sitaution. I'd imagine The Strokes only agreed to it as they have a good relationship with Pulp and recognise them as a massive act with the reformed band buzz so treated them as equals, I'd be surprised if an establised US act whose status and relevance has been questioned (Pearl Jam, RATM) would co-headline with a new headliner like Paramore.

I saw Qotsa at Download this year where they subbed Iron Maiden, they nailed it and would be so happy to see them again next year. I cant really think of an other band similar size to them from the US other than Paramore who have have the popularity to co-headline but be too small to headline alone.

Then again Nine Inch Nails are a similar size so wouldnt be a surprise if a band similar to them came out of nowhere to co-headline like the surprise of Eminem last year which nobody anticipated.

Yeah there are some other possibilities, The Black Keys or Slipknot would be real curveballs.

Riot it's their best album

I was thinking that!....

I actually didn't mind them up until Brand New Eyes and then it all went properly shit (Apart from Ignorance, again I don't mind that). Basically when it became all about Hayley Williams I believe.

That said ..shit headliner really and I hope that bit's wrong or they have pull to out. (QoSTA will do nicely mind :P)

didn't Lucky's info say that it wasn't QOTSA (or The Prodigy)? looking through previous lineups i can't see any other previous headliners who would take a 'step down' and become co-headliners (apart from Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins.. which i don't see happening). i'm assuming the two co-headliners will be kind of similar as well - i.e. both cater to the same audience like Pulp and The Strokes seemed to do (and maybe come on and do a collaboration like Pulp and The Strokes did). all that said, i have no fucking idea who those two acts could be (as Paramore fit into the same bracket as Blink 182, so THREE pop-punk headliners would be a bit ridiculous)

Yeah that all makes sense. Anyway here's the exchange:

I reckon the co-headliners might be the best headliners for me, as long as it's Queens and Prodigy and not fucking Paramore.

Sorry

Youll be disappointed

So I guess jump will be disappointed becasue it isn't QOTSA and The Prodigy, or disappointed because it is Paramore.
