I'm talking about purely with the R&L demographic. One Direction are successful, but popular with the demographic, most definitely not

Again - you dont know that. Alot of teenage girls go to Reading. Enough to pack out a tent. And I know loads of guys going this year that love Bastille and they are mid 20 "lads". I see what you're trying to say but I think you're wrong - and comparing them to other bands is always abit pointless. They are newer then Vaccines but are certainly one of the most successful artists coming off a debut album of late

If I can't generalise based on my friends, then none of you lot can either ;)

I'm merely stating the fact that Bastille will pack out the tent and my evidence is their massive following and fan base - use the radio airplay, tour sellouts, and number 1 album as evidence. Thats more valid then your argument of Vaccines are more popular then Bastille, which has nothing on it then your opinion whatsoever ;)

No disrespect - like I said I usually agree with what you say but I think you are letting personal opinion weave in abit to the fact that if Bastille have another successful album, they could play 3rd/4th main easy. Maybe even before then.

It depends on your interpretation of successful

haha i love these debates......

if something is successful, it has been a worthwhile project, aka made money or made a name for itself. The more name you make for the project or money gained - the more successful.

Bastille released 1 album and have become one of the biggest bands in Britain. They made what.....11/12 songs and are selling out decent sized venues and getting littered on the radio - and making a fuck load of money.

Bastille are successful. So are Vaccines. But so are Bastille.

But Vaccines are more so

I don't know statistics but I do know it would be a close call either way. And that means that if vaccines are potentially big enough to sub headline, Bastille could play high main stage too.

I think they'll have a good position at v next year, then with a 2nd album play 3rd or 4th down on main stage - or headline nme. That level anyway

I do think that if Bastille play 3rd next year it would go down really well; whether they deserve it or not is irrelevant to the majority of people going who'll just be happy to see a band that they really like in a big crowd.

I've adjusted what I predict for next year:

Friday

Main Stage: Arctic Monkeys // Queens of the Stone Age // Vampire Weekend // The Courteeners // MGMT // The Horrors // Peace // Spector // Pure Love
NME/Radio 1 Stage: Ben Howard // The 1975 // HAIM // Twin Atlantic // Crystal Fighters // Pulled Apart by Horses // Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip // Little Comets // The Computers // Arcane Roots // Broken Hands
BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage: Rudimental // Modestep
Rock Stage: Young Guns // Ash
Festival Republic Stage: Everything Everything
BBC Radio 1Xtra Stage: Dot Rotten

Saturday

Main Stage: The Prodigy // Dizzee Rascal (or maybe Kanye West if we're very lucky?) // Bastille // Azealia Banks // The Gaslight Anthem // A Day to Remember // Architects // Hacktivist
NME/Radio 1 Stage: Frank Turner // Jamie T // Miles Kane // Jimmy Eat World // Don Broco // Swim Deep // Temples // Tall Ships // Findlay // Sons and Lovers
BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage: Madeon // Jaguar Skills
Lock Up Stage: Cancer Bats
Festival Republic Stage: Tribes
BBC Radio 1Xtra Stage: Roll Deep

Sunday

Main Stage: Blur // The Vaccines (or maybe Jack White if he's available?) // Two Door Cinema Club // Jake Bugg // The Hives // The Strypes // The Futureheads // Theme Park
NME/Radio 1 Stage: You Me at Six // Bring Me the Horizon // All Time Low // Wretch 32 // Lower Than Atlantis // CHVRCHES // Grouplove // Toy // Drenge // The Virginmarys
BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage: DJ Fresh // Hadouken!
Lock Up Stage: Against Me!
Festival Republic Stage: AlunaGeorge
BBC Radio 1Xtra Stage: Professor Green

HAHAHA at the above. Kanye West subbing R&L? Next joke.

I rekon the top spots will be something like this:

Paramore

30STM

Prodigy

Dizzee Rascal

Blur (If the rumours of new material is true)

Vampire Weekend

I'm still sceptical about Blur. They're not doing R&L this year when it fits in perfectly with their European festival tour schedule, so to me that suggests they either want to wait until they have new material to play the UK again, or they just simply aren't interested in R&L.

That would be as bad as this year for me.

No Vaccines subbing?

Also I doubt 30STM will be invited back to sub after the shambles last time.

Plus the reason why Blur aren't playing any shows in the UK this year is because they stated that they didn't want a gig in the UK to become a yearly thing as it'd lose its sense of event; I reckon it could happen next year because of either a) new material or B) 20th anniversary of Parklife.

that would be amazing :) I hope that means they actually do it

the Vaccines haven't done anything to suggest (YET) that they should move up from the slot they played last year.

The 30STM comment is irrelevant. Bands are booked for their size/draw power, 30STM sell tickets, they sell out arenas, so they will be asked again at some point.

It was really bloody bad though. It was so bad that it turned people I know off them (including me) so maybe their poor performance last time will affect their draw.

Paramore
30 Seconds To Mars

Metallica
Slipknot

Arctic Monkeys
Queens Of The Stone Age

Boom.

I think Slipknot subbing would put a lot of people off going; certainly a lot of people that I know.

poor performance very really matters. Paramore, Arctic Monkeys, Eminem and KOL have all got shite reputations live but all still have the same pull after a shit performance as they had before.

I think the opposite. I reckon the festival is crying out for something like that again. A lot of people still want the 08 show pull lol. I know people more into Slipknot than Metallica but they certainly wouldn't not go due to it.

Actually I'll add

Paramore

30 seconds to mars

You me at six

All time low

Metallica

Slipknot

Enter shikari

Limp bizkit

Arctic monkeys

Queens of the Stone Age

Vaccines

Gaslight anthem

Boom.

I can't see The Vaccines 3rd, subbing is the next stage unfortunately but it may be that it'll come either on as suggested the other day T/R&L exclusives or a next album. I don't see Gaslight more NME sub/headline. Friday bar Paramore is awful, if you don't like them, it's just plain awful haha

The indie-kids wouldn't appreciate a ben howard/arctic monkeys clash
