Because I get saddened that we live in a world where bland autotuned songs with uninspired lyrics about sex are hugely popular.

There's different tastes, and there's buying into the marketing. Despite their "alternative" label, nu-metal and pop-punk are just as manufactured as the likes of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. They're focused on exploiting specific teenage attitudes and ideas, feigning meaning to emphasise their image as "rebels" when they're completely ingrained in the mainstream system. It's not just "as bad", it's worse, because they're hypocritically exploiting the pretence at being something else, and even when people mature and their tastes maybe develop, they're exploited again by the nostalgia element.

It's all incredibly cynical and manipulative, and IMO music should be for either the joy of it or to create something meaningful, not a cash cow.

Edit: I'm sorry, I've gone on a rant about pop-punk AGAIN. I swear I'm trying to cut down on this!

While I agree with you the manufactured state of hits and popular music is sad and, in some ways false, I accept it's just the way it is and am thankful there is alternatives and real musicians still going strong.

I wouldn't agree though that nu metal and pop punk fall into this category - it can do to an extent, ie paramore who were initially headhunted as Hayley and her backing musicians, but at the end of the day they were writing themselves about what they wanted too. You could argue that bands like Linkin park and blink, have showed some signs of maturing and have altered their sound of lyrical meaning and singles from those times haven't been as popular. It is them fundamentally writing what they want too, with little regard to label pressures.

It's just different musical worlds at the end of the day, and while I agree that bands like one direction are mere cash cows, who care more about fame and how many hot celeb girlfriends they have then any "music" they make, I wouldn't say the same for say Linkin park or nu metal artists. However, again, they obviously aren't as alternative and unproduced as more alternative and unique artists who write and perform tracks for near nothing and still love it

MK still available, maybe the price has put people off. It certainly has for me. I shall wait for the supports and see if £75 is worth it

I imagine they'll be gone from the proper ticket sites by the time supports are announced. There'll be a good few hours, four hours more time at MK than Leeds I think for an extra £10.

Buying tickets for an act based on the supports is madness to me, does look like I'm in the minority with that thinking though.

It depends really, it's an incredibly expensive gig so I'd kind of like to know how much enjoyment I'd get out of it. Especially as I wouldn't pay that much for Pearl Jam on their own. Foo's was only £46 before fee's.

Id be going to mk bowl as well if my mate wasn't getting married on that day.

Saw them both nights at Manchester last time too. They always change their setlist massively every night so its not like you're paying for the same show. Last time they played 2 26 song sets and only played 4 songs on both nights

It's ridiculously expensive and £75 is more than I'd pay to see just pearl jam. I'd also have to travel for 2 hours. Plus it doesn't stop at £75, it'll cost me £30 to travel plus another £20 on the day. I'd quite like to know who else is playing before I commit to spending over £100.

As said before Foo's was £45 with biffy and JEW.

And if they are sold out when the supports are announced, then they are sold out.

Seen PJ before and I'm not keen on the new album so not too bothered. They are a great live act though, and if i can justify it i'd love to go

Didn't think Brand New were that big, really wasn't expecting tickets to fly out that quickly, I'm just going to buy one off a tout on the day

Yeah I'm thinking about doing the same for Troxy; I would've seen Saves the Day the night before so I'll be happy to stay outside until BN come on to get the best price

By the way if anyone is near Brum tonight; tickets for Sabbath tonight are on Seatwave for a fiver

Can anyone tell me what the big festivals in europe are?

Trying to decide on a back up to tommorowland and looking at europe but i cant tell what are small festivals and what a big ones :(

Dance ones or just general?

GG/Creamfields would be decent shouts for dance music but obviously they're here. The other big players are over towards Eastern Europe and stuff.

Generally, the larger ones would probably be Werchter, RAR, Roskilde, then a fair way behind would be Sziget, Pukkelpop and Pinkpop.

Exit is quite big and it compromises between dance and rock music I guess.
