Asdaprice
Ahh okay, so nobody actually dropped out then, they just weren't his first choice? Also, how could there be haters of that lineup? It was stellar. Metallers didnt like Prodigy headlining, simples! I agree though, had a wicked time. Gutted I'm not there again this year

Asdaprice
I never said they were set in stone headliners, I said they were established headliners, which they are. For them to sub, they'd need 3 headliners bigger than them, which I don't see them getting next year. Yeah but even established is pushing it. What have they headlined? Download, Creamfields, and Bestival? 2 of which are smaller and Download as I said getting a bump up due to no Van Halen who were in talks (thanks Matt)
Gucci Piggy
They've also headlined IOW and Reading. Van Halen being in talks means nothing, I'm sure there are loads of acts in talks every year who don't end up playing. No one pulled out, The Prodigy were a normal headliner. Frankly Mr Shankly
They've headlined Glasto, Reading, Phoenix, IOW, Bestival, Creamfields, Download & MK Bowl, what more do you bloody want? No wonder people are always moaning about line ups being weak when they fail to even recognise established headliners. Fair enough I didnt know about IOW, but Reading was YEARS ago - they aren't what they were back then. But even then, IOW sometimes has smaller headliners. Yes Prodigy were normal Download headliners, but the talks with Van Halen went further then that. They were due to play but last minute problems led them otherwise. Thats like saying Lostprophets are established headliners because they headlined Download. Wasnt meant to happen, but did. Prodigy are more massive though and honestly I agree with most of that you're saying. But the truth is they haven't headlined the MAJOR mainstream festivals (Reading, V, Glasto, T) even when their last album was huge. Until the new one, and new slots decided, no one knows whether they would definitely headline them or not.

No wonder people are always moaning about line ups being weak when they fail to even recognise established headliners. Some of those were when they were ridiculously massive in the 90s. Since then they dipped. Thats fact. See above post as to why they aren't definitely headliner worthy.

Asdaprice
Can I just ask where you got this from? which part? Van Halen - Andy stated so on his twitter some point last year. I think it was even leaked beforehand they were meant to play by some form of press, can't remember for sure. Lostprophets headlining - 2008 lineup. rawaudioinput
If The Prodigy headlined next year I think they'd be a great headliner who would shift tickets but I could also see them fit in a sub slot if they play every festival under the sun. In either situation I think they'd be a strong booking.

But there were also stories that The Prodigy and Green Day were headlining R&L, I doubt the ones about Van Halen were true. And I doubt Andy stated on his Twitter that things with Van Halen got further than being in talks, as I never saw anything about it on here, except for people saying they were in talks. The Prodigy would sell loads more tickets than Van Halen anyway, so if it's true they did Download a favour. Besides, I think Copping always had them in mind for future Download headliners. I do know that In 2008 all 3 headliners were ready to sign on the dot, to the point where Copping initially had to turn KISS away... Rammstein, Foo Fighters & RATM were the 3. Rammstein decided not to tour & go back into the studio, Foo's went for Wembley shows instead & RATM chose the 2 show pay out from R&L. Hence the week headliners they were left with. Andy definitely said they were bumped up because of last minute problems with another act. Don't believe it if you want, doesn't change my argument. I hear that alot but never saw proof of it myself. Shame though, that would have been a stonking set of headliners and instead they were left with the poorest

Rammstein Judas Priest Motörhead Disturbed Foo Fighters Offspring Incubus Bullet for My Valentine RATM Lostprophets Chris Cornell Jimmy Eat World It's weird how things can change so quick, Andy must have been gutted this fell through, it would have been one of Downloads strongest line ups ever. The problem is "loads better than Andy Copping" doesn't actually mean a damn.
Asdaprice
He's a lot better, although they're all bullshitters which is why none of them should be trusted. I dunno, I personally find him worse. Publicly dissing other festivals and saying they book the same old crap of which includes many reading bands that they book all the time also is just a stupid thing to say. And he bumbles with everything he says ummmm......I..I...I... At least copping respects other fests/acts, and genuinely seems a music fan
Gucci Piggy
Didn't Copping do exactly that by insulting Sonisphere for booking Metallica, only to book them the next year?
kaosmark2
Didn't Copping do exactly that by insulting Sonisphere for booking Metallica, only to book them the next year? Yes he did. In fact he said that Metallica should go away for a while so that people care about them again, before booking them the next year.
