I don't quite understand why a 'self-respecting' artist wouldn't do it? I don't see the issue with it. If there is a demand, then it should be met. It gives people a chance to see a band that they would never get the chance to see. It's as near as you'll get. It's no different than experiencing things through the medium of film really. Plus the technology involved is kind of astounding. I would be tempted by it, just out of sheer curiosity.

I think it would be a problem (only in that it brings up the issue of short changing fans or being disrespectful) if the whole show was centered around this hologram but the fact it was only a small part of a large show I think it can be done well as was proven at Coachella

If those around the artist beileve that it's fine and believe that the artist would have been cool with it then it's their perogative. Clearly Dre and Snoop were cool with it and Tupac probably would have been (I can imagine him doing it with Notorious B.I.G. had the opportunity ever been available), while I can't see Dave or Krist been comfortable with it or Kurt doing it for one of his heroes/idols if he was alive. That's the difference.

Ok first of all.. no you wouldn't.

secondly... why are the artists being abused? The 2Pac thing for example. It was two of his best friends, with consent from the family, paying tribute to their friend by celebrating his memory. Who exactly is being abused? The only people who would go to the show would be fans who love the artist, and want to see some kind of hyperreal simulation of the genuine thing.

I don't see the melodrama involved in this. As long as everyone agrees to it (family, band members etc), then what else is there to worry about?

If it's people making money from a posthumous performance, then we need to re-evaluate just what exactly is tasteful. Is putting footage or references to a dead artist in a film ok? or documentary? or picture book? or novel? or dvds of past performances? Where does it end. At the end of the day this is a computer generated image recreating a past performance by the artist, backed by a band. Is it really any different than me going to see a charlie chaplin movie with a live musical accompaniment. We aren't stringing a decaying corpse on stage and flinging it about like some sick vaudevillian puppet show.

i think if they brought on a hologram country love would have a field day

She'd probably heir an assassin to kill Dave Grohl, i mean its not like she hasn't done it before xD

Anyway the point is there's now way there doing it. END OF

i think there's a higher chance of Kirst coming on OK. Yes i am a little sad Nirvana fanboy (but to be honest if your not there is something wrong with you) and even if Kirst comes on just to play that One fucking song from wasting light That would make my day

The nirvana song was just a thought. a nice thought i'd like to think...

*this is a joke country love didn't kill her husband

**also OMFG NEIL WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS BAT SMILEY :vampire:

  • 1 month later...

So it occured to me this weekend that IF the Foos wanted to do any kind of tribute to Kurt (Of course would understand if they didn't) , in a way which was a little more tasteful and a little less directly Nirvana. Why not get Mark Lanegan up on stage to sing "In the Pines/Where Did you Sleep Last Night" with them?

...ok so that's more of a fantasy then anything else.
