Why do people break into festivals?

I am doing my dissertation on Why people put themselves to risk by not purchasing a festival ticket. Last summer whilst at some festivals I noticed this problem and just wanted to know why people do it? There must be quite a few different reasons but thought I would see what people's thoughts are on this topic?

I asked people on the internet and I think the reason people break into festivals is because they can't afford a ticket, or its sold out, or they can afford a ticket and its not sold out but they just don't want to spend the money. The end.

p.s. sometimes people go to steal stuff too, saw somefing on the news about it, but Hollyoaks was on so i switched over

It certainly seems higher this year than in previous years.

To me, it just seems so fucking dull as a thing to study. I love festivals, and I would probably really enjoy organising and running one so fair play to people who want to give it a go, but what the fuck are you supposed to learn about for 3 whole years in a classroom?! I can't see how event management extends beyond motivation, common sense, a bit of business knowledge, good people skills, and hours and hours of low paid work experience building up a pile of useful contacts...?

It could be a more interesting area than what they are making it out to be....

What gives me doubt is most of them don't stick around long enough, and to some surveys there's been some really good additional discussion they could use or help them improve there questions.

Still at least they are trying to at least get real answers to a survey, I know several people on my IT degree where the main purpose of our dissertation was meant to be in project form to have some sort of actual production (Even if it was just initial plans for a network /piece of software) that ended up writing 10,000 words largely based on fake survey answers to give them the result they wanted!

I made up a load of survey responses once for an A level. I only did it though because nobody would talk to me on the street to get proper responses (no on line surveys then unfortunately). It was a crap project made even crappier by me taking flights of fancy with some of my survey responses. Still scrapped a pass though. I have had little need for geographic spatial analysis since then. A good job too.

Constructive answers would be great! Thanks to the people who have given a serious answer :) I am looking at two festivals and comparing them in regrads to this question. I wanted to get some peoples opinions on the topic as some background info and an insite if there are reasons that I haven't thought of.

Thanks for the comments about robbers. I had'nt thought about this and it's a valid point! Don't judge people on what course they are doing at uni. It's personally helpful for me in the career path i have chosen who is anyone to say its dull, maybe for them but its not for me. On another note I am not planning to organise festivals, there is enough people doing this. I just love festivals and find them interseting.
