The line up is crap...

To be honest, how important is the lineup really?

For people that go every year and love the festival experience (e.g. many people on this forum) the lineup really doesn't have to be perfect

Yes this lineup has its weaknesses but you know it also has its strengths

I think all you really need is 2 or 3 bands that you want to see each day and you'll have an awesome time

For me on Friday its: Bombay, Paramore and the Maccabees

Saturday: Kasabian, The Vaccines and OFWGTKA

Sunday: Foos, Black Keys, Bullet and Band of Skulls

Basically the point i'm trying to make is that lineups aren't everything, you'll still have an awesome weekend even if the lineup isn't perfect

I'm actually quite looking forward to more time sat back at the camp drinking.

I'm usually in the arena pretty much all day as I'm afriad of missing out on various acts, meaning I don't get much chance to have a drink and a sit down back at the tent and I'm always knackered by the end of the day.

Therefore, worse line up = more drinking :)

I'm 35, I can't be arsed camping with a load of teenagers. It was great fun when I was that age but I'm past all that now. For a festival like Reading where there's not much outside the arena/stages the line-up is everything to me. I think this years is very poor, apart from the Sunday. Friday/Saturday have at least one act way too high and more repeats than Sunday

I disagree with your V Festival comment. I'm a fan of heavier music myself, and I like the look of the Download line up. But the thing I love about Reading is the diversity. I buy one ticket that enables me to see The Cure, Billy Talent, Kasabian and Bullet for my Valentine. Think about how different each of those bands are.

Personally I'm a big fan of the Sunday line up, although I've never really been able to get into The Black Keys, which are a band that everyone else seems quite hyped about.

In analyzing the lineup i agree with the lack of imagination actually

Paramore is a pretty lazy booking and i think Mumford and Sons would have been a major coup for R&L, Jack White somewhere high on NME or 4th/5th on main stage would have been good as well

I did think that they were really good at reading 2010 but since then what have they really done? 2 founding members left, and ok if their album this year does really well then they will be more justified but so far its a question of what have they done since then? 2 founding members left and they havent exactly had a surge in their fan base

Its lazy because they only played 2 years ago and were very much a band of the moment, not like other more established frequent bookings like QOTSA and Bloc Party. This could all be bollocks if their new album is good but in my opinion their latest single 'Monster' was disappointingly average

Looking at the lineup now it doesn't seem really bad to be honest, though it is very average. Friday is the worst day only having 3 bands I actually want to see (The Cure, Coheed & Cambria, Cancer Bats) Paramore are a lazy booking which others have said but they are no worse then having 30STM last year really, BBC are way too high, YM@6 are just terrible from what I saw at Sonisphere, Crystal Castles play every year, Angels & Airwaves have Tom Delonge, and Deaf Havana will be a lot like We Are The Ocean last year and not work on the large stage.

Saturday is alright thanks to At The Drive-In, The Cribs, Billy Talent, Enter Shikari (though they're an annoying repeat), Odd Future. Kasabian and The Shins are also good booking which I may see if clashes allow. In fact my only problem with that day is The Vaccines being way way too high! Hopefully the D will be slotted above them after Download. Sunday as ok as well really, Foo Fighters and Black Keys are popular even if they aren't to my tastes, as stated by others Kaiser Chiefs are on the wrong day but I'll still probably check them out, BFMV were a very surprising booking IMO one of the best on the day given they are very good live and aren't taking up a really high slot, All Time Low are basically the same as YM@6, Gaslight Anthem are probably may favorite band on the bill so far and with new material since last time they play should be great, Eagles Of Death Metal, Band Of Skulls and Pulled Apart By Horses are all reasonable aswell.

Conclusion the lineups ok but just like last year its in dire need of a Lock Up annoucement!
