The line up is crap...

Seeing as most of my mates have grown out of going due to other festivals that offer more bang for their buck (Reading has piss all on aside for the bands), meaning a much smaller camping group, the lineup is the most important factor in me deciding to go now.

I can cope with the feeling that I'm being mugged simply by being at the fest, if the lineup is good. I don't think that this years is. Its full of bands I think are crap as well as bands that if I really wanted to see them, I could have done so last year or the year before that. The Cure, At The Drive and a couple of lower placed bands aside, there's nothing that makes me want to go.

Really, would it have been that hard for FR to make some slightly more imaginative bookings - I actually hate KoRN, but I'd have been pleased to see them on the lineup for the first time ever, they're in the limelight again due to their stuff with Skrillex and they're touring that month ffs - but no, All Time Low, Enter Shikari and Crystal Castles again...

If the lineup was more imaginative I swear to god more people would go - you've got to be a hell of a committed fan of The Cure to buy a day ticket with that undercard. Its not as if FR would even have to cut out the commercial popular bookings that get the school leavers going - they could just balance the lineup - for example; The Flaming Lips, PJ Harvey or The Specials in at 3rd above Bombay Bicycle Club and then someone different and 'a bit cool' like TV on the Radio or Janelle Monae in for Crystal Castles or Angels and Airwaves (who could still go in the tent) and that attracts some of the Latitude or All Tomorrows Parties Crowd.

Do agree that this thread isn't exactly necessary btw - but you did ask a question so I gave a rant.

How do Enter Shikari sound like any of the bands around them exactly? And i remember Placebo, Rage Against The Machine, and Slipknot all playing below Stereophonics in 2000 and it being an excellent day of music, so why should we have a day of bands just to fit The Cure?

Yes there is a lot of crap on the lineup but there is plenty I want to see, There will always be more bands you dislike than ones you like but its the diversity of the festival that makes it so successful. There's some odd bandplacings this year but overall its a good lineup with a lot more to get excited about than last years
