pink_triangle
While us minions are struggling osbourne surprises nobody with his "we are all in this (as long as you are rich or a Tory voter) together" talk. All I'm reading is about the 50p tax to line the pockets of party donors and an end to national pay bargaining to punish those of us from the north.and midlands and look after those torys in the south east. They claim its so unfair that we get a higher relative wage than those from the south. If its so unfair I am sure those in the south east would be moving north in their droves, I suspect they are not!

pink_triangle
I'm not against cost of living in London which I know is common in the nhs and I assume other areas in the public sector. I'm against extending it throughout the rest of the Tory heartland. They get advantages of living in some areas and a slightly warmer temperature, they have to take some disadvantages. I remember Ian Duncan smith once saying if people in the north cant find a job, they should come down south and improve their chances. Well on the same way if someone in the south east wants a relatively better wage, move up north and you can also get a bigger house for your money. bunique
How would this work in practice? I work in one of the most deprived authorities in the country, but I live in a different (more expensive) one - which one will my wage be based on? As P-T said, the most deprived areas often have the highest needs across the board and need to be able to attract skilled staff on attractive packages. I've been largely inactive in response to govt policy so far but would strike in a heartbeat over this one! I think (hope!) Osborne has totally underestimated the strength of feeling against this policy.
eFestivals
We're all in it together, but if you're a tory then you think the north is worthless. We're all in it together, including with the cuts. The poor get their services cut while the rich get their taxes cut. Why is this a surprise to anyone? It's a tory govt. They're not known as the nasty party because they do nice things and tell the truth.
