I think it's because Leeds has after-hours entertainment whereas Reading can't because of the location, so to make up for that Reading has music on 'til later.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Reading's location certainly limits what can happen there in the late hours, but the time of the main stage curfew is really just down to the prejudices of each of the local licencing committees.

Reading Council invited the festival to come and site itself in the town - and that sort of welcoming attitude makes a difference. I'd guess that the 11.30 curfew goes right back to that invite.

And against that, Leeds fest moved to its current location after plenty of trouble on the previous site, which is likely to have had the local council feeling apprehensive - and so likely to want stricter conditions.

Yeap, I'll be surprised if The Cure only play 2 hours too. Robert Smith said in an interview yesterday that they'd just played their shortest set of this festival tour, 2 hours 5 minutes at Paleo Festival and that was 15 minutes longer than they should have been playing. He also said that all the other festivals have given them 2 and a half hours or three hours.

If there is no-one playing after them on the mainstage (which there was at Paleo) then they'll play until they are about to be cut-off and will pay any fines if they go too far over curfew.

True, but what they get given and what they take are two different things.

I'd be surprised if FR broke the habit of a lifetime and officially gave them more than two hours, especially when bigger and more popular bands like Metallica and Foos would happily play for longer and didn't get given it. I mean it's not as if The Cure would have had FR over a barrell when negotiating to play. It would also mean that the other bands on that day would have shorter sets than other bands in the same position in previous years. It just doesn't sit right for me.

However if they get given two hours then I'd expect them to play two-and-a-half right up to the curfew.

Just a quick thing.

On friday FR they have been known to start the day at 11:30. Could they do this on main too? Push everythng half an hour earlier, Allow the Cure to 2.5 hours official time, then half hour if they really want to use it. Wouldn't be that big of a deal to have half an hour extra day.

That said I assume the licence would prohibit this happening. But it's the only way i can see the Cure having a set officially longer.
