Why would Foos playing Nirvana songs be a dream scenario? I don't get it.

Its not going to happen,if Dave wanted to take the Foos in the direction of covering Nirvana I'm sure he would of already done so by now.

I expect they'll make reference to it being 20 years but not much else.

Nirvana was Kurt. I'm denying the others' influence, but it's was Kurt's band, and Dave's always shown respect to that by not trying to milk the legacy. I don't see why he'd change that now.

I could understand that in the setting that it's been done (low-key secret gig, the one song that Dave wrote), but the damage it would do if they rolled it out across massive shows and playing other songs would outweigh any interest in it. I just think the remaining members have done a great job of being respectful towards the situation and downplaying it for the last 18 years, I don't know why they'd want to risk all that away now.

However i do kind of feel that the only nirvana song the average member of the crowd would know would be 'smells like teen spirit.' I have a feeling the reaction to in bloom would be: 'oh must be a new song'

Nah, there was a year (08?) that a few (well, I happened to see 3) bands did Nirvana covers and a decent amount of people knew the songs. Manics did Pennyroyal Tea which went down well, so I'd imagine most popular Nirvana songs would go down very well with a Foos audience.

They sort of did an encore when I saw them at MK, it consisted of a video showing Dave Grohl downing pints. Best encore ever.

indeed, the MK encore was epic, the way they were haggling over how many more songs to play, and the downing of the beers. oh and wheels live too!

MK was brilliant, for wheels I was standing right next to the platform dave was stood and he waved (at me not at the other 60,00 people just me personally) and I've seen them 6 times, they've never not done an encore.

At a few festivals last year Dave made the point of saying that they weren't going to go off but just go straight in the 'encore' as they didn't want to waste time and wanted to play as many songs as possible. So technically there wasn't one but he always pointed out where it would have been if there was.
