Aren't Deep Purple from Hertfordshire so Knebworth would be a home town show?

dunno about that, but Richie Blackmore used to live in Camberley in Surrey about 25 or 30 years ago. I've no idea if he still lives there.

And Ian Gillan used to live in Pangbourne in Berkshire at about the same time.

I wasn't stalking them, honest.

"UK paper Welwyn Hatfield Times believe an announcement for the first lot of acts “is expected this side of Christmas, and possibly in the next few weeks” following the website update. No official dates have been locked in yet.

Fans on the /topic/171620-pearl-jam-2013/">eFestival forum are predicting Pearl Jam are a good chance to be one of the headliners after they were heavily rumoured for Download, before Slipknot took their spot. Meanwhile, those on the Sonisphere UK forum are throwing Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Muse into the mix."

They've said they don't want to play the pointless hype game in the meantime to be fair. Which I think is best, rather than hyping up with pointless updates that give no info, they may as well wait till they've got the stuff ready to announce - assuming it's within the next month or so and not as late as February.

If they don't have headliners sorted before Christmas though, I'd imagine they'd not actually come back, in the UK at least.

No point in making a big hoo-hah, just to end up cancelling again. They need to get it right, and lack of noise now isn't necessarily a bad thing (not saying it's a good thing, mind). If they can take time and actually put together a good bill, then that's better than just trying to hype it up and make a load of noise and booking bad acts quicker just to compete in that sense. They'd be setting themselves up for failure again - and as a fairly big, but independent promoter they've got more at stake than just a festival so they can't really afford to "throw something together" and for it to bomb. Obviously leaving it till after Christmas would be bad, but if they can get it announced and some (good) bands out there before christmas as they have done in the past, then they'll be alright I imagine.

I don't see System doing anything again soon, Serj has a new album out next year aswell as a project with Jimmy Urine to do and still no new System album in sight.

It's the same thing with Rage, every year they are predicted but after the reform they wont be anything in the UK unless there is something to promote.
