Re; history repeating itself, can anyone remember where all this emnity between Gilbaith and Probyn came from? I remember reading something about it on the DL forums years ago but I can't remember specifics. Did Gilbraith work for/run Donington/MoR/DL and leave or something?

Also re: Tool. I had heard they've been trying to get them the past few years, and were close both last year and this year - but apparently Tool dropped their summer touring plans. Although interestingly the Ozzfest date seems to suggest it could be back on. Depends if it's just Japan (they are known to do short tours after all) or if they'll actually make it across to Europe after all. If they do, I think they could be in with a good shout.

I think last year despite being their comeback, proved that Soundgarden were not headliner material, they couldn't give tickets away 2 for 1 for like 28 quid to see them at Hyde Park. Tool definitely would be the bigger draw, it's been six years and they have a massive dedicated fanbase, and would offer something both different than what DL is offering and something more of a rarity over DL's headliners who have been about a fair bit recently - albeit bigger bands. They always seem to get loads of requests online and the likes anyways. Definitely couldn't be the biggest headliner of the bunch, but would be a strong headliner alongside a good ticketshifter - SOAD/RATM/LINKIN PARK or AC/DC (as unlikely as that'd be :P )

As for how good my sources are, the fact that they were a band on Sonisphere's radar in the past is definitely 100% that one I asked myself at a focus group a year or so back. As for the rumours surrounding them this year, I don't really have anything quite so accurate - but if they were after them for 2 years, I'd be very surprised for them to have stopped. Not to mention a lot of the french outlets who leaked maiden at Soni France mentioned that the organisers - for France at least were after Tool and got close, but they opted out of touring yet again. Tool seem like a band to change their minds a fair bit but over the past few years they've toured Australia in 2011, America in 2012 and now we've got this Japanese date. Not to mention APC and Puscifer are touring the start of the year up until Tool's first date (At south american/Australian fests) but are free from Euro fest billings so far. Which could suggest summer has been freed up for Tool?

Pretty sure they posted a pic a couple of months ago of Justin writing in a personal home studio. From what I've read on forums the Neil equivalent is convinced they're not in the studio yet. They are a band that loves to take the piss..... but every album before this one had a 5 year gap, which may have lead to people assuming it would come out then.

I actually wouldn't be at all surprised if it happened to come out on the 21st of December when this whole 2012 thing is allegedly gonna kick off. That's right up their street.

Loving how without so much as a sniff from the organisers, we've gone from Soni being fucked to ACDC headlining. biggrin.png

If it gets announced then they really need to sort their marketing and pr out as a lot people are up in arms. People are like rats from a sinking ship on their FB page.

To be fair, this ambiguity is still getting a better response than Queen w/ Adam Lambert :P

I don't think it really matters to be honest, if it happens, and the line up if good. People will go regardless. Can't imagine those having a whinge about poor communication would turn down a line up they like for that reason.

It was more a wild guess than an educated one, but I know acdc have been saying that they want to tour again, and are one of the few bands that could sell a festival out on their own merit. Whilst I love tool, and don't mind a bit of soundgarden, I do see them as smaller headliners, which you kind of need if you book a mega band like acdc, otherwise the rest of the lineup goes to shit.

Oh, don't get me wrong. AC/DC are enormous. Of course the other 2 are smaller in comparison. I was just comparing Tool and Soundgarden. I also think if someone like NIN or Faith no More replaced AC/DC then Tool would become that "festival defining headliner" a la RATM at Reading '08 or Radiohead at Glasto '03.... Bowie Glasto '00.

They were despressing as hell at Soni and I'm a huge fan. I'd properly sold them to all my mates who then laughed in my face at how bad they were.

I heard some story about it being a challenging set in reaction to supporting Metallica. Nice one trent. ;) Metallica wiped the floor with you.
