You really underestimate Tool's live shows. Until Ozzfest, Tool have headlining pretty much any and every festival they've played since the late 90's. NIN haven't and wouldn't. Tool would have out sold Soundgarden at HRC based purely on a huge fanbase that has been waiting since '06/'07 for them to come back here.

I also saw NIN at Soni. Thought is was pretty good, but there were many better bands on that day. I don't understand what has happened since that would promote them to headliner status, and I don't know what has happened since that would promote them above Tool in any capacity. Maybe I've missed something.

Ok, fair points well made. I guess it depends on what the organisers are aiming for. Neil's stated in the past that headliners are booked on their ability to shift tickets alone. Do you guys think that Tool or NIN would sell more? For a large scale metal festival, I've still gotta lean towards Tool. Especially if they manage to get the new album out any time soon.

Seen tool and saw NiN something like 9 times in 8 years. The Brixton show circa with teeth, headlining other stage at glasto in 2000, O2 on the last tour and the Leeds set in 07 were my favourites but all ace tbh (and all pretty different too tbh, even seeing em on successive nights on last tour).

While I enjoyed the soni set I'd say it was the weakest of all.

Tool were headlining fests in Europe last time out with NiN subbing them... Think that says it all.

When I saw tool it was one of the best shows I've ever seen, better than any of the NiN shows (which were fab too).
